Paradox (I) (2010)

Entertaining, if Not Great Fantasy
8 January 2019
8 November 2017. The idea of a world based on magic and intersecting with a world like ours based on science has an intriguing appeal to it. This movie attempts to present such a parallel portrait of such a universe. There is a good measure of magicality to Kevin Sorbo's world here, nevertheless, the presentation is more along the lines of a two-hour television pilot movie for a hoped for series. The storyline is pretty basic with a twist or two and it flows pretty well together.

What's missing is the opportunity to really introduce how both worlds would interact as well as the various counter-parts like the television series Fringe (2008-2013) accomplished or the even more cutting edge fantasy series The Magicians (2015-2016). Paradox is able to display some intriguing magic in the fashion that Demolition Man (1993) accomplished for a look in a futuristic world or the intersection between animation and the real world in Last Action Hero (1993).

Overall, Paradox is a regular crime thriller fantasy which introduces a rather fun use of comic book animation together with live action film noir in a more literal sense then Sin City (2005). Don't expect too much here and you have a good possibility of some mindless but cute, predictable entertainment.
