It always starts with the script - and here it's terrible: a bunch of events just strung together. Add in that the direction doesn't make it any better.
Marthe Keller is the stereotypical evil stepmother trying to get rid of the boy from day one and way overplayed. Jason Priestley should be last billed. Burt Reynolds is sleepwalking.
Everybody has their own problems and nobody works on the kid's psychological state of mind: he has to muddle along while the adults get all of the focus.
Had trouble getting my hands on this film: now I know why. No wonder hardly anybody has seen it here. Unwatchable.
The kid is great.
