A refreshing lesson in cinema (dad)
9 October 2016
First of all, i want to thank my parents for having this DVD in their collection : I don't know how they got it but with their help, i could find a awesome movie that, as usual, becomes totally transparent in our western and french medias !

For sure, as we are brainwashed to expect big productions or big names, we never pay attention to oriental movies and it's a big error as this one took me back to the candid joy as a kid discovering films for a 1st time !

In short, this movie has all the simple things that makes you feel happy :

1) You leave your daily life and you are taken into a new one : here we are in India, late XIX and it's good as this land and folklore are nearly forgotten by filmmakers : Except Indy 2, Octopussy, i don't have watched other movies happening there !

2) At last, we have another point of view ! actually, when i see a western movie happening in Orient, it's about a war in which the natives are depicted as enemies and West the good savior. Here, as told in the excellent movie Brother, we left this propaganda and are closer to the truth : West is an arrogant invader that spoils and squeezes resources from the natives ! This is maybe the first time i hear this argument in a movie and it's good !

3) In our materialistic, consumerist and loose-valued society, we take anyone different from us as retarded, dumb and degenerate. Here, i see women veiled and working for the household and i can't say they are exploited as told by today propaganda. Those people wear traditional clothes but they can express their feelings and they have more interesting things to say that i'm a beauty, see my perfect body, etc…

4) For sure, we are frightened by the fact that we know nobody's name on the cover, as much we are instructed to except big names for a big movie ! However, all those fresh faces are cool, talented and crush the Hollywood and french myth ! Newcomers can do as good and even better than films legends !

5) The movie has a clear story, with well done cliffhangers involving well-defined and balanced characters and the production knows how to tell it : so it's not about like video music and cutting frame each seconds, grading colors to a what-if world and confusing special effects with a story ! At last, as it's a sport movie, we find as in Rocky all the values that sports can teach (solidarity, efforts) and i must praise all the production because the 3 days match was not all repetitive or unintelligible but this final showdown was a test in human nature !

So if you are tired of seeing the same faces, desperate of propaganda and endless violence, try this movie and you will discover that yes, there's a different way to do movies … and different cultures in the world !
