Holiday (2014)

Yet another South Remake but not really bad
10 June 2014
Warning: Spoilers
A.R.Murugadoss is the man who brought South remakes back in the forefront with GHAJINI(An almost copy of original Ghajini made by himself in 2005). Which was followed by Prabhu Devaa's WANTED(2009) and many more South remakes finally leaving the genre dry. HOLIDAY is an official remake of his own successful tamil film THUPAKKI(2012) which starred Vijay, Kaajal Agarwal and also had Vidyut Jamwal and Hindi actors like Zakir Hussain(who reprises his role here). Actually HOLIDAY was supposed to be made in Hindi by him after Ghajini but due to Akshay's Schedules it got delayed and he made THUPAKKI instead. Anywayz HOLIDAY is the same as THUPAKKI,in fact the entire film alongwith it's dialogues and scenes are all left unchanged including some flaws and bloopers of the original(Like how does Sonakshi remove the key from his bike), The film is well handled at many places though due to it being made by a Tamil director many scenes don't blend well within Hindi scenario like the romance between Akshay and Sonakshi which acts like a stumbling block, even the songs pop in at wrong places.Even several comedy scenes don't suit for Hindi Cinema

Direction is good though the film is mostly copied from the original Music by Pritam is okay but the songs seem forced at times, Aaj Dil Shahyrana is good while others are okay Action scenes are superb

Akshay Kumar after the disastrous BOSS last year is back and does a good job in his role, though he is older for the role His action scenes too are a treat. Of course comparisons with Vijay are inevitable but he does well in his own style. Sonakshi Sinha just reprises her role which she has done since DABAANG except LOOTERA, she is getting tiring now and needs to do diverse roles Freddy Daruwala as the villain is a big letdown, he has one expression and a bad dialogue delivery, I wish Vidyut had reprised his role Zakir Hussain reprises his role from the original and is okay, Govinda is funny and looks slimmer in a short role, Sumeet Raghavan is superb as Akshay's friend Mukund, rest are okay.
