Review of Shahid

Shahid (2012)
9/10
Bollywood's realism to cinema, storytelling and performance
23 April 2014
It's nearly impossible to write a review for "Shahid" because; it is simply a pure cinema. One has to visually feel how story unfolds naturally or how character grows from start to the end. I wouldn't write much about film as plenty of enthusiastic viewers like me has already praised it. Rather, I would highly appreciate my all-time favorite Anurag Kashyap to be part of the core production team. Also, I feel extremely satisfied when big fish like UTV Motions Pictures encourages such kind of storytelling in Bollywood.

Hansal Mehta is a great Director. He knows best how to extract the reality on the screen. Sameer Gautam Singh has written kick-ass script. I admire Rajkummar Rao ever since I saw his vibrant character in "Shaitaan". He is one of the rare, who has got ability to wear character hat deeply. This film is a tribute to Shahid Azmi, who is inspiration for the plot and Rajkummar Rao has truly justified his life.

Finally, I liked Mukesh Chhabra's casting call. Supporting characters have added many layers to the reality and story.

The film has got National Award and also critics Award at Film fare for Screenplay, Acting and Direction.

Congratulations to the production team and talents. You deserved it. You earned it.

Best Wishes for the next venture.
