Time For A Late Breaking Reality Check?
28 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Make no mistake, these Lagina brothers are in the entertainment business. Maybe a bit more Tim Allen and less Brad Pitt? Actually neither, but they are well paid stars of a hit TV show. In this is a kind of stroke of brilliance? Who hasn't fantasized about finding treasure...or even hitting the lotto? Yet, growing up with responsibilities of life push those dreams further back with every year. But what if there was a way to get back to being a dreamer actually going after long lost riches. These guys have been able to do just that. Covering massive expenses to play with the most advanced "big boy toys" in the process while walking away with impressive pay days regardless. Good for them.

What about the rest of us? Well, we do get entertained, but we must endure large amounts of much ado about nothing along with "generous" amounts of pesky ad breaks followed by fast-track reviews. It often makes the entertainment factor much less palatable. Viewers often lapse for much needed breaks before returning to find definitive answers still out of reach. And, this does wear on one making it easy to imagine many remain lapsed. However, if you are one of those "in for a penny, in for a pound" you stay hanging on to a sliver of some hope it won't be all for naught. Speaking of the brilliance thing again. Let us suppose that somehow, some way one day the Lagina brothers actually do find something that is either amazing - lost riches or amazing historical artifacts...or, both? A major find will re-engize the whole long strange trip, and catalog of episodes. Fortunes will be then elevated by the streaming of the whole Mystery of Oak Island experience on an entirely different level. So far I'm one of those who has "slogged" through mostly disappointing, yet somehow compelling long-running show. And you know what? These two brothers have scored a major coup just by manipulating enough of us to keep watching while they slyly go to the bank. Kind of like roping many of us in to thinking I've invested too much to walk away now. Did I mention the Lagina brothers are brilliant? Brilliant and honest in the title of the show. They didn't call it the "Treasure of Oak Island" after all.
