Vishwaroopam (2013)
10/10
Taking Tamil Cinema to Path Breaking Levels
26 January 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I normally would never give a film a 10/10, because no film is perfect, and Vishwaroopam definitely isn't without flaws. But the effort that Kamal has put into this film and to have the film face so many hurdles and problems, I think a 10 is very well deserved. There was also ABSOLUTELY nothing against Islam in this movie. Portraying the life of Al Qaeda terrorists in Afghanistan is apparently considered anti Islamic in some countries.

Plus points:

To start off, the technical level of this film is on another level compared to what is being put out these days in Indian Cinema (this includes Tamil AND Bollywood). We can see the effort that was put into ensuring the action sequences and stunts were up to near Hollywood standards. Kamal's direction was brilliant, for a man who has only directed a few films, he is pretty damn good!

Cinematography was stunning. Especially the scenes portraying the life of terrorists in Afghanistan were breath taking.

The acting by the supporting cast was okay, but special credit goes to Rahul Bose..he was fantastic. However no one can hold a candle to the legend Kamal. This man is on another level compared to anyone in Indian Cinema today. He not only acts amazing, but he dances and even sings the opening song in this movie.

Negative Points:

The background score was a tad below the level of this film in certain scenes. Expected more from Shankar Eshan and Loy who were making there Tamil Debut.

The movie dragged a bit near the ending in the 2nd half.

Conclusion:

If you want to see glamour, some typical action, some typical Indian songs and kids trying to act then grab some popcorn and go see Alex Pandian, Race 2 or Debangg...but if you want to see something different, something with a message & something with REAL acting, then see Kamal in Vishwaroopam!
