This movie was a pleasant surprise as it managed to translate an urban German legend into a modern day setting. Promoted by the television station as a horror movie it actually is a psychological thriller using common horror themes.
Many Pro 7 movies like "Gonger" tried to copy Hollywood movies but "Wer hat Angst vorm schwarzen Mann?" tells an original story that uses common themes and clichés to mislead the viewer into believing hes watching a mystery themed story, while the events lead to a realistic ending.
The performance of the actors is not believable at all times but the main characters still deliver an emotional connection to the viewer that serves the suspense plot. Good to see that German horror films can indeed have soul and intelligent character structure.
