I managed to catch this movie and expected it to be a typical chick flick and high school drama- well I was right.
Story:
Mary is a high schooler who dreams of becoming a dancer, however she has to make it into the Manhatten dance school to fulfil her dreams. In the meantime she has to work for her stepmom( actually guardian in fact). Joey is a pop-star who came back to finish his studies in high school and to find his roots as well as choose a new dancer for his new music video. Mary is Cinderella and Joey is the prince.
Storywise, its very predictable, you do know what will happen next and of course both will end up happily ever after. I did like how the movie was flowing initially but towards the end, it started to get boring and I was wondering when it will end. I also noticed that dancing seemed to be the main theme of this movie. For that I gave it credit because I do like watching them dance.
Actors and acting:
I don't know about whether anyone noticed the age gap between Selena Gomez and Drew Seeley but I did and no I didn't even look at their ages in the first place. The minute I saw Selena, it struck me on how young she look, like a young teenager wheras Drew came across looking like a college student( I do know he's older then that later). Though they had OK chemistry, I find them really incompatible in terms of looks. Bad choice of actors in this case.
I like Jane lynch who played the stepmother. Proud and arrogant and often bullying Mary, her vulnerable times were comical especially when she told Mary she was unpopular as well.
The other actors, like Mary's rival in love, stepsisters and friends were just OK in acting. I see nothing special.
