OLLO disappoints!!!
5 December 2008
A film with a star cast that boasts of the multi talented Paresh Rawal,Abhay Deol(many people might not think highly about him but I have been a keen follower of all his films, right from his debut to the more recent Manorama Six Feet Under and they are all such wonderful films. He may not have the star value as the the actors from his clan "The Deols" possess And what do the Sunny's and the Bobby's have...Well God knows!!!But this guy, I feel is the only person who can live a role in the Deol clan,Darmendra included. He is more of an offbeat,a thinking, a Rahul Bose kind of actor and I have always been quite fascinated by most of his movies,Ek Chalis Honeymoon Travels to name a few). And then when you have a person who directed a flawless, extremely likable, one of its kind Khosla Ka Ghosla handling these talented people and with a story that looked so promising on paper one would expect nothing but fireworks. But sadly that was not to be. I wouldn't say its a bad film, far from being called one but somehow I expected a lot more fun, a lot more logic from the makers of KKG. That was however not to be. The movie as u might have already read in various reviews is good in parts and it really is. It starts off well but then it goes on,on and on.Scene after scene you are pained to see only one thing,Lucky getting in and coming out with loads of goods. We don't know how he does it with so ease barring a few instances. Paresh Rawal, inspite of having a relatively large screen time in 3 different roles is wasted and not once has he evoked any laughter. and the connection for these 3 roles..Might be the director wanted to show all the tormentors Lucky encounters at various stages through one person.was that really needed. The actor playing Lucky's sidekick had also fallen flat, not much fun from his side as well. Stealing the Merc,Burglary at the editor's house,Getting off with the bike at PS and the various other petty crimes....There wasn't much in it really. They looked all so very simple. It would have been a better fare had they shown him using his Grey matter in outsmarting the people around him. That is where the film falters. For the full 2 1/2 hours u see him doing the same thing and that really gets onto you and one would yearn to see the end rolls. What has been very encouraging though is that most of the critics have given it a thumbs up and people are loving it.Thats what matters in the end.May be I was expecting way too much ala KKG and was disappointed. Go with no expectations and you would in all probability like it. I sincerely hope that KKG goes on to become a surprise hit inspite of all its flaws. For me though,I would be eagerly looking forward to Abhay's next Dev D(modern day Devdas...Sounds interesting rt) in the direction of Anurag Kashyap(Black Friday) and Dibakar's next. He had faltered this time but he has all the talent in the world to recreate the KKG magic
