Fred being a "science nerd" is actually kind of a turn on for me. Smart women who are that cute should be respected. That's why Fred would've been a better fit with Wes. He was smart, understood her "nerdiness", had a similar sense of humor and actually got her. She and Wes were always a much better fit and should have been put together way before season 5. Gunn was just a wannabe nice guy who basically kissed Fred's ass to get her. Fred basically raping Gunn when he started reading her article sickened me. No punk ass thug deserves someone as hot as her with legs as great as hers. OK, enough of that now.
This is one of the times where we get to see the darker side of Fred. Realizing that your professor was responsible for you ending up in Pylea all along would anger anyone. Her wanting to kill him made it even more apparent. And is anyone surprised that she turns to Wes for help. As much as she thinks she really loves Gunn, she knows that Wes' way of thinking will help her out without making her feel as guilty. In the end, Gunn snapping the professor's neck came as a huge shock. The only good that came out of it was it was one of the major contributing factors that led to their breakup.
