The Backyardigans (2004–2013)
10/10
Catchy music, imaginative scenarios, and consistent characters
25 October 2006
This is a well thought out, well put together show for kids from very young ages through elementary school ages. The 5 characters' core personalities always come through their assumed roles on each episode as they imagine themselves in various play situations (knights, swamps, pirates, tropical islands, murder mysteries...you name it) and work their way through quests and missions of all kinds, singing and dancing all the while. The music is great -- catchy tunes you'll find yourself humming to yourself through the day as well as rich instrumentation -- and the lyrics are very cute. Best of all, though, the intensity always stays at a kid-friendly level: nothing too scary, nothing too mean, and always a happy ending as the imaginative play disbands and they head to someone's house for a snack. I highly recommend this show for kids of all ages.
