The "Magic Mike" movies are ostensibly about men, or at the very least about one man (Channing Tatum's titular "Magic" Mike), but the women of the franchise have an important role, too. Mike has had his romantic interests through each film, like Cody Horn's Brooke in "Magic Mike," Amber Heard's Zoe in "Magic Mike Xxl," and now Salma Hayek Pinault in "Magic Mike's Last Dance," but the second movie also has two brilliant, beautiful bisexual women who have carved out positions of power in the world of male stripping: Jada Pinkett Smith's Rome and Elizabeth Banks' Paris. Rome and Paris, besides sharing place-based names, also share some kind of romantic or sexual past together, and they're the kind of women that make fems everywhere want to scream "#Goals!".
I've already written at length about how "Magic Mike Xxl" is a masterpiece that addresses desire and women's needs,...

David Ayer is bringing his 2012 movie End of Watch to television. Fox has handed a script-to-series commitment to the police drama project based on original film which starred Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Peña.

Channing Tatum and Steven Soderbergh’s “Magic Mike” franchise has spawned two movies and a buzzy live stage show in Las Vegas, so perhaps it was only a matter of time before it made its way to television. HBO Max has announced a new unscripted competition series under the working title “The Real Magic Mike,” executive produced by Tatum and Soderbergh. A nationwide casting search for contestants is currently underway, and the series will debut on HBO Max later this year.
Per HBO Max’s official logline, “The Real Magic Mike” will “transform a group of men into real-life Magic Mikes.” Ten men who have “lost their magic” will be chosen “to bare their souls and more as they evolve their bodies, learn to perform spectacular routines, and develop a new level of self-confidence. Netflix’s June lineup is all about old comforts and bold counterprogramming. As the summer movie season heats up and even the most casual theater-goers trek to the multiplex, Netflix is serving up one of its most robust slates in recent memory in order to convince people to stay home. With a little help from the likes of Steven Spielberg, Bob Fosse, and Miles Morales, it just might work.
On the blockbuster front, the streaming giant is getting into the spirit of the season by re-upping “The Dark Knight” and — more excitingly — offering the Oscar-minted “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” for the first time. But the real action can be found in less obvious places, as the company is complementing its well-chosen array of newish favorites with a diverse roster of Netflix Originals that includes a searing documentary about the democratic crisis in Brazil, a ruminative bit of sci-fi that delighted audiences at Sundance,...

It seems like just yesterday we were planning movie night with our girls to watch Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey take it all off in Magic Mike. However, six years later, we are still guilty of watching the guilty pleasure from time to time — and Tbh, we're still keeping our fingers cross for another sequel. Based on Channing's experiences as a stripper in the early '00s, it was no surprise the actor had all his sexy moves down pact. And his back-up dancers, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Alex Pettyfer, Adam Rodriguez, and Kevin Nash were just as impressive. Along with the guys, Cody Horn and Olivia Munn also held their own in the midst of all that testosterone — making it the perfect chick flick in our opinions. (Photo Credit: Warner Bros., Giphy) It's also no surprise the film inspired its very own Las Vegas show, which was just extended.

Channing Tatum returns to headline Magic Mike Xxl. It's better than you think...
The gradual reveal of Channing Tatum as a box office magnet and sorely underestimated movie star was staggered over the first half of 2012. The Vow and 21 Jump Street were both hits that showed off opposite sides of his range, but his two collaborations with Steven Soderbergh set him on his current path.
Long renowned as an actor's director, Soderbergh cast Tatum in a minor role in Haywire, which is how he came to be attached to Magic Mike, a semi-biographical project based on the actor's experiences as a stripper in Tampa, Florida. The latter was a sleeper hit that assured Tatum's status as an A-lister, but a sequel hardly felt inevitable.

Magic Mike Xxl hits theaters this evening beginning at 7Pm and while it isn't the drama the first one was, it is more the film I think many were hoping 2012's Magic Mike was going to be. So, in that respect the Screen Junkies crew are on point with their dissection of the stripper drama calling it "two unsexy hours" of watching the day-to-day routine of male strippers along with some stock market conversation mixed in with thong shopping. Though I do think they go a little hard on Cody Horn whom I thought was actually good in the first film. Oh well. readmore postid="181704" Watch the video below. yt id="SsDd_BVZqxQ" width="515"...

Move over Fifty Shades of Grey – the movie that’s going to get the most female tongues wagging this year is unquestionably Magic Mike Xxl, in which Channing Tatum returns to the role of an ace male stripper who thought he was out of the life for good, only to find himself drawn back in for more sweaty, sexy antics with such buff co-stars as Joe Manganiello, Adam Rodriguez, Matt Bomer and Kevin Nash.

No, we didn’t either, but if you saw any of the recapped jokes or highlights you know that host Amy Schumer’s go-to joke centered on the ladies lust for “Magic Mike Xxl.” If her take is anything to go by, the female audiences most anticipated movie of summer 2015 is certainly this “Magic Mike” sequel. So what happens in part 2? "Just a bunch of naked dudes sitting around doing dude stuff. We read all the message boards, and people were like, ‘Less story. Less plot. Just dudes’ things.’ And we listened to that,” star Channing Tatum recently joked to EW. The first trailer for "Magic Mike Xxl" is here, and it turns out we may be in for a stunning and smutty treat. But are we? Check out the promising trailer above. But I demand that the "Magic Mike" sequel trump the first in a bunch of key ways. Here are five easy steps the movie can take to really own us. 5. Keep most of the melodrama inside the strip club. Not that I don't appreciate drug-fueled party scenes with the most symmetrical male strippers in cinematic history, but the "drama" of the first "Magic Mike" movie seemed awfully staid and expected when juxtaposed with its fresh take on male objectification. If you've read "Candy Girl," Diablo Cody's book on stripping, you'd know there's plenty of dicey activity in the stripping world that went unreported in the first film. What about the requirement of strippers to use their own tips to pay the DJ?...

Welcome, one and all to yet another abject lesson in what should be called Cinematic Séances Are A Bad Idea For Everyone Involved. As if we didn’t already have last year’s Ouija to point this out, along comes the first trailer for horror thriller Demonic to remind the world that nothing good happens when stupid people decide to try to dabble in dark forces. This time around, those trying to figure out what happened when one of these ill-judged ceremonies turns deadly include a psychologist (Maria Bello) and a detective (Frank Grillo). Naturally, they start to dig into the case and the foreboding old house that it all went down in, trying to piece together what really happened. Was this an incursion from the Great Beyond? Or are the participants just run-of-the-mill killers trying to cover their tracks? The trailer leaves little room for doubt on that front.

I wasn't even aware of Demonic, a film produced and co-written by James Wan (Saw, Furious 7), until this morning. Directed by Will Canon (Air Jesus), who also co-wrote the film, the story seems to follow traditional territory as a police officer and psychologist investigate the deaths of five people who were killed while trying to summon ghosts. And it would appear some surveillance footage captured all the dirty deeds. The movie stars Maria Bello, Frank Grillo, Cody Horn, Dustin Milligan, Scott Mechlowicz and Aaron Yoo and as of now it doesn't have a release date, though it seems a safe bet it will find its way into theaters this October or thereabouts. Watch the trailer below. sb id="1334731" height="360" width="640"...

A couple of key trailers have hit in the past day or so. First up comes the first trailer for the "Flatliners"-esque "The Lazarus Effect". Olivia Wilde, Mark Duplass, Evan Peters, and Donald Glover star in the film about a research team who accidentally kill a colleague during the experiments in mapping the brain. When they reanimate her, well, what comes back is not what they bargained for.
Next up there's the first trailer for Will Canon's "Demonic," the James Wan-produced horror tale starring Frank Grillo and Maria Bello, as a detective and psychologist respectively, inspecting a brutal massacre inside an abandoned home. Cody Horn, Dustin Milligan, Megan Park, Scott Mechlowicz and Aaron Yoo also star.
Finally there's the trailer for "Good Kill," Andrew Nicole's drama thriller about Las Vegas-based drone pilots starring Ethan Hawke and Bruce Greenwood. Hawke plays a former fighter pilot turned drone pilot...

Maria Bello and Frank Grillo star in this first trailer for Demonic. Produced by James Wan (The Conjuring) and directed by Will Canon (Brotherhood), the clip shows several ghost hunters and a haunted home. They are attacked and some do not escape this cursed home. Full of terror, the first trailer for the film is hosted here. As well, Demonic also stars Cody Horn, Dustin Milligan and Megan Risk. This horror title will be released later in 2015. The film's story begins after a mysterious set of murders. The sole survivor acts suspiciously as detectives try to find out what happened to the victims. The trail to the truth is littered with more bodies and few will exit this haunted home. The film uses multiple shooting styles. Partly shot via found footage, the director also utilized conventional shooting styles. Fans of film can preview Demonic below. Release Date: 2015. Director: Will Canon.

James Wan has created some of the best horror movies of the last 10 years. The first full trailer for Demonic was released today, and it leans pretty heavy on Wan's name as writer and producer. This is the second film from director Will Canon, who is not mentioned in the trailer. The synopsis is pretty simple: "A police officer and a psychologist investigate the deaths of five people who were killed while trying to summon ghosts." With a "story by" credit from Wan, odds are it's going to be a well-plotted script. The movie has a bit of a found footage vibe without relying on it to tell the story. My favorite part of the trailer - aside from the floating blood - is the infrared camera.

“There are a lot of theories about how to open these gates between our world and the underworld. The trick is finding them. Everybody join hands.” Ghost hunters want to hear from the dead, but what if a haunted house responded very violently? Previously known as House of Horror, we’ve been tracking the James Wan-produced Demonic since early 2011, and now the movie about ghost-seeking gone wrong has received its first trailer.
From James Wan, Demonic was directed by Will Canon (Brotherhood) and filmed in Baton Rouge. The script was written by Max La Bella and is based on an original idea from Wan:
“The film centers on the aftermath of a horrific massacre: five college students, brutally murdered inside a decrepit, abandoned home. Fresh on the scene, detective Mark Lewis and the police department’s psychologist, Dr. Elizabeth Klein, question one of the few survivors who explains they were amateur ghost-hunters,...

Filmgoers can knock all they want, but they’ll have to wait an undetermined length of time before theaters answer the door and let them into two upcoming haunted house movies from The Weinstein Company and Dimension Films. Amityville: The Awakening and James Wan’s Demonic, both initially scheduled to be released this winter, have now been delayed.
According to Box Office Mojo, Weinstein/Dimension have delayed the debuts of Amityville: The Awakening (originally slated for a January 2nd, 2015 release) and James Wan’s Demonic (initially scheduled to hit theaters on December 12th, 2014). No new release dates have been penciled in on the calendar, but we’ll keep Daily Dead readers updated on further announcements.

Bless you Joe Manganiello! Looks like your upcoming documentary about the male strippers working at famed Dallas club Labare could be even more entertaining than Magic Mike was. (Hey, it won’t have Cody Horn‘s downer of a character in it, so your doc already has a leg up!)
This just released clip from Labare features hot dancers demonstrating how to do the fundamental move in erotic dancing — the body roll.
It’s a great skill to add to your resume!

Warner Bros. has set a July 3, 2015 release date for Magic Mike Xxl (aka Magic Mike 2) of which star and co-writer Channing Tatum recently discussed with MTV saying, "I think everyone's gonna be back, I think. Obviously no one's deals are done which is always kind of scary." As for the plot, it's just as before, the film is expected to be a road trip movie, but Tatum elaborated with MTV saying: This one will be a road trip movie. Without giving a lot away, we don't wanna make it a really serious, slice-of-life movie. We want to have reality in it, but we don't want to make it some dark drama. There was some darkness in the last one that I think surprised people and shocked people. This one, we want there to be a lot of conflict and a lot of struggle, but we also want there to be a sh*t-ton of fun.

Earlier this week, "Magic Mike" co-star Joe Manganiello said that the male stripper dramedy's sequel will start shooting this fall and that more news was coming soon. Now that news has arrived. The sequel will be titled "Magic Mike Xxl" and will star Channing Tatum, Manganiello, and presumably more members of the 2012 film's buff, shiny cast. "Xxl" also has a new director, although Steven Soderbergh is staying on as an executive producer. The sequel will be directed by Gregory Jacobs, Soderbergh's longtime A.D., according to The Playlist. Jacobs also directed the 2004 caper film "Criminal," which starred John C. Reilly, Diego Luna and Maggie Gyllenhaal, and was produced by Soderbergh and George Clooney. "Magic Mike" also starred Matthew McConaughey, Olivia Munn, Alex Pettyfer and Cody Horn.

After Magic Mike became a smash-hit success at the box office back in the summer of 2012, turning its $7m. budget into almost $170m., it wasn’t long at all before talk turned to Magic Mike 2.
Channing Tatum confirmed in a Twitter Q&A that the sequel was happening, revealing that they’d already begun working on the concept, and were looking to flip the script and make the sequel even bigger.
Now Tatum has taken to Twitter once more to tease a photo of himself at work, starting to get underway on scripting the anticipated Magic Mike 2.

Hey, wait a second. Didn't James Wan say that he was done making horror films and Insidious: Chapter 2 was going to be his last? Well, that still appears to be the plan. But we'll be seeing his name attached to at least one more horror flick headed our way next year.
There's been a project listed on Wan's IMDb page for a while now that bears the title (or lack thereof) "Untitled James Wan Thriller," aka House of Horror, and the website Desde Hollywood broke the news today that the movie has finally been given a proper name. Currently in post-production, the film will be called Demonic, and you can expect to find the words "James Wan Presents" attached to that title.
