Color grading system developer FilmLight announced the nominees for its Color Awards, which recognize the work of colorists on movies, TV and short-form content.
In their third year, the competition attracted roughly 400 entries. Winners, which will be selected by a jury led by Oscar-nominated cinematographer Lawrence Sher (Joker), will be announced Nov. 12 at the EnergaCamerimage cinematography film festival.
“The diversity of talent and work is, as expected, very high. Our jury meetings so far, with talented cinematographers, colorists and filmmakers, have illuminated how fundamental the colorists’ work is in the filmmaking process and it’s been a complex job to determine the nominees. Everyone that has made it through these early rounds has, in our eyes, already won.”

Barbie leads the feature competition of the annual Hpa Awards, whose nominations in features, TV, documentaries, commercials and restoration were announced Tuesday.
The postproduction community nominated Greta Gerwig’s hit film for outstanding color grading, editing and sound. Close behind with two nominations apiece in the feature categories are Oppenheimer (color grading and editing), Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio (sound and visual effects), Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (color grading and editing), Tár (color grading and editing) and Avatar: The Way of Water, for which teams at Weta FX and Industrial Light & Magic were both nominated in the VFX category.

Molinare wins picture post for The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2.
Film post-production house Molinare has been appointed by Fox Searchlight to undertake the picture post on The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2.
The grading will be undertaken by colourist Gareth Spensley, chosen by director of cinematography Ben Smithard. Spensley previously worked with Smithard grading recent period drama Belle.
Molinare will begin grading the film for spring 2015 release.
John Madden returns to direct the sequel from an original screenplay by Ol Parker. Blueprint Pictures’ Graham Broadbent and Peter Czernin produced the film, with Participant’s Jeff Skoll serving as executive producer. Fox Searchlight Pictures has worldwide rights and co-financed the film in association with Participant Media and Image Nation Abu Dhabi.
Returning cast includes Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Dev Patel, Penelope Wilton, Celia Imrie, Ronald Pickup, Diana Hardcastle, Tamsin Greig, Tina Desai, Lillete Dubey with David Strathairn and Richard Gere joining the ensemble.
