Twice a month Joe Lipsett will dissect a new Amityville Horror film to explore how the “franchise” has evolved in increasingly ludicrous directions. This is “The Amityville IP.”
There’s an uneasy tension in Amityville in the Hood (2021) between intentional parody and uncomfortable racism. How much of the film’s stereotypical depiction of Compton, which includes gangs, gun violence, drugs, and sex work, is making fun of the conventions of Hollywood films? Or is this just lazy screenwriting and uninspired scenarios?
Let’s give writer/director Dustin Ferguson the benefit of a doubt and go with the former. Of the three titles he’s made in the Amityville “franchise,” In the Hood is by far the most self-aware. There are even a few moments that play like genuine (read: intentional) comedy!

There’s something simultaneously exciting and horrifying about discovering the worst entry of the Amityville “franchise” more than 35 films in. And yet, Amityville Hex truly is *that* bad.
The first of writer /director Tony Newton’s two entries, 2021’s Amityville Hex is a disaster in nearly every way. From amateur acting to a repetitive script to an egregiously long (and unearned) runtime, the film embodies all of the negative qualities that have earned “Amityville” films derision and mockery.
Modeled on the screenlife model popularized by Host and, to a lesser extent Unfriended and Searching, Newton’s film focuses on vloggers who participate in “the Amityville Hex”, which involves reading a chant on camera, then documenting the aftermath.

We’re hitting new lows with the “franchise” with The Amityville Theater (or The Amityville Playhouse depending on where you watch). Despite an inherently interesting location and a few well-shot sequences that suggest a much more interesting film, director John R. Walker and writer Steve Hardy never get a handle on the material. This is never more evident than in the brief climax, which poorly and hastily delivers a ton of exposition in a rushed and unsatisfying way. Add in some of the worst acting the series has seen yet, and this one is a bit of a stinker.

Amid the planning stages of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s integration of the Fantastic Four and the X-Men, another team will be making its way to the big screen in Thunderbolts. The team is named after General Thunderbolt Ross, who is to now be played by Harrison Ford, replacing the late William Hurt. It comprises of anti-hero supporting characters of past Marvel films, including Yelena, Bucky Barnes, Taskmaster, John Walker, Red Guardian, Ghost, and Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.
The film was penned for a first pass by Black Widow writer, Eric Pearson, but Variety now reports that the creator of the upcoming Netflix series, Beef, Lee Sung Jin has been brought on to do rewrites on the script. While promoting Beef, Lee tells Variety, “I’m rewriting it. It’s the whole squad again. Jake asked me if I would come on board. I probably should have taken a break,...

Marvel Studios’ “Thunderbolts” is getting a screenwriter change as Lee Sung Jin, creator of the upcoming Netflix dark comedy series “Beef” is set to pick up the project from “Black Widow” screenwriter Eric Pearson.
“Thunderbolts” will see Sung Jin reunite with director Jake Schreier, who directed all six episodes of “Beef.” Set for release in July 2024, “Thunderbolts” has not released a synopsis but will see longtime MCU star Sebastian Stan return as Bucky Barnes, the man once known as The Winter Soldier, as he leads a team of antiheroes and villains from past MCU movies and Disney+ shows on a clandestine government mission.

There is a change happening behind the scenes of Marvel's Thunderbolts. The rag-tag team of heroes and antiheroes is getting a new writer: Lee Sung Jin, who has new Netflix comedy drama Beef on the way, is taking over the script.
The film will see Julia Louis-Dreyfus' Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine bring together a team that includes Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan's Bucky "The Winter Soldier" Barnes, David Harbour's Red Guardian, Olga Kurylenko's Taskmaster and Wyatt Russell as John Walker, Aka US Agent.
Black Widow writer Eric Pearson had been overseeing the previous drafts, but Lee is being brought in by director Jake Schreier (who also worked on Beef). And the show's connections continue as Steven Yeun, who co-stars in it, will have a role in the movie alongside The Bear's Ayo Edebiri (though their characters are unknown for now).

Lee Sung Jin, creator and showrunner of Netflix’s “Beef,” has taken on writing duties for Marvel’s upcoming “Thunderbolts.”
Lee has previously written for “Tuca & Bertie,” “Dave” and “Silicon Valley.” “Thunderbolts” will be his first writing credit on a produced feature film.
The gig is a reunion with “Beef” director Jake Schreier, who is directing the Marvel movie, and costar Steven Yeun, a member of the film’s sprawling ensemble cast.
“I’m rewriting it,” Lee told Variety in an interview promoting “Beef.” “It’s the whole squad again. Jake asked me if I would come on board. I probably should have taken a break, but there’s a lot of themes and exciting things about the movie that I couldn’t help but sign on.”
He added: “It’s truly an honor to be part of a Marvel thing, but it is very different. One, it’s not my project,...

Kate Hudson has opened up about her insistence on casting Matthew McConaughey in “How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days.” The actor reflected on her life and career during a Life In Pictures talk at BAFTA in London on Friday.
Hudson, who acknowledged her strength in rom-coms during the 2000s, revealed that she and the studio executives at the time initially disagreed on the direction for “How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days.”
“I’m such a cheerleader for actors in our industry, but for rom-coms you need that guy to have chemistry with,” Hudson told moderator Briony Hanson, director of film for the British Council. Of the casting process for the 2003 movie, she added: “We just kept hitting our heads against the wall, and the studio and I weren’t agreeing.”
The actress revealed that she had “approval of everything” in the end, because she “fought back on a lot of things,...

The mysterious Val shows up once again in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” and as always, she’s an enigma. And if you’re thinking to yourself “What do you mean she showed up ‘again?'” — no one could blame you. She’s been pretty minor so far, but that clearly is about to change, so let’s refresh.
Val is a new character in Phase Four, played by “Veep” and “Seinfeld” star (and Emmys record-setter) Julia Louis-Dreyfus. She’s sassy and sarcastic, and boasts an incredible stripe of purple in her hair. But how she fits into the puzzle at large is a bit baffling so far.
Of course, Val originated in Marvel Comics where, as in the MCU, her full name is Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.. Created by Jim Steranko in 1967, she started as an Italian jet setter who becomes an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.

"Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" introduces quite a few new characters into the MCU, but there's one character who MCU fans had already briefly met whose appearance in the movie was a total surprise. In the sequel, Julia Louis-Dreyfus appears once again as Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, head of the CIA. She actually has a pretty big role in the movie, and viewers learn one major part of her backstory: she used to be married to Everett K. Ross (Martin Freeman). Through the course of the film, she tries to stop Ross from helping the Wakandans and ultimately arrests him for betraying the United States.
The movie marks Louis-Dreyfus's third appearance as the character in the MCU, and she will be back in a huge way in the upcoming "Thunderbolts" movie. Ahead, we're breaking down this character's role in the MCU and in Marvel comics.

Spoilers for "Black Panther: Wakanda" Forever follow.
While it can be a somber and reverent experience due to the loss of franchise star Chadwick Boseman, the titular hero King T'Challa, and the process of moving forward without either of them, "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" also maintains an element of joy. We're not just talking about the happiness that True Believers get when a new Marvel Studios movie debuts in theaters, either. Ryan Coogler's follow-up to his hit 2018 superhero movie is infused with the exuberance of a true celebration of culture and life. And though the things that bring us joy in the Phase Four finale are the characters like Shuri, M'Baku, Okoye, Nakia, the people of Wakanda, and their resilience in the face of tragedy, the House of Ideas continues to spread tiny bits of happiness throughout their projects for eagle-eyed viewers with the help of well placed Easter eggs.

The original Black Panther movie was a game-changer for Marvel Studios and perhaps the superhero genre as a whole. Released in February and (at least in the the minds of some fans) in the shadow of what was the latest Avengers movie, it’s doubtful even Disney anticipated Black Panther to open north of 200 million or that it would go on to be the first superhero flick nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars.
Yet here we are in the shadow of a true, kingly MCU movie. Still, the road to its sequel has been long and marred by tragedy. We may never know exactly what director and co-writer Ryan Coogler had in mind in his initial drafts for what became Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but it obviously changed after the monumental loss of star Chadwick Boseman, who passed away in 2020 at the age of only 43 after a long, private battle with cancer.

After making his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Black Widow, David Harbour is set to reprise his role of Red Guardian for the upcoming Thunderbolts movie, and he couldn’t be more excited.

Harrison Ford is set to star as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in “Captain America: New World Order” after being heavily rumored for weeks to be taking the role.
Anthony Mackie, who recently took over Captain America’s shield in the Disney+ series in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” is set to star in the fourth untitled “Captain America” movie.

"A new strain of evil." Get it, get it? Wild Eye Releasing has debuted an official trailer for Amityville in the Hood, another ridiculous B-movie creation from filmmaker Dustin Ferguson. An Eastside gang uses the Amityville property to grow marijuana when they are attacked by a rival gang and their drugs stolen. As if knowing it existed wasn’t enough, we now have our first look at the absolutely bonkers B-movie, Angry Asian Murder Hornets, in its first trailer that aims to ensure that 2020 couldn’t get any weirder.
Angry Asian Murder Hornets tells the story of a Californian anthropologist who is desperately attempting to find a way to fight back an invasion of mutated, ridiculously massive murder hornets attacking the population. If it sounds completely wacky, that’s because it absolutely is completely wacky. And as you can tell by the trailer, viewers can expect nothing less than the goofiest, most asinine film since Sharknado – which may very well sound like an exceptionally fun time for those with a love of campy, outrageous B-movies.
The film is nothing if not timely, releasing not long after the very real Asian giant hornet was first spotted in Washington, having migrated somehow from its original home of Asia.

2020 hasn’t been off to the greatest start. With an ongoing pandemic responsible for millions of infections and a quarter million deaths, we really don’t need much else on our plate right now. But that hasn’t stopped one deadly insect from spreading to Washington from its original home of Asia, ensuring that this year only becomes even more stressful.
The Asian giant hornet, known by a far more threatening name of the “murder hornet,” is a species of large flying insects native to Asia. They’re responsible for over 50 human deaths a year in Japan, and they can wipe out a beehive in a staggeringly short period of time while killing upwards of 5 bees per minute. If that doesn’t make you feel a tinge of discomfort, few things probably do.

Ouijageist… I watched this film entirely because of that title. And I fully understand that it’s not even a good title. Adding Ouija instead of ‘Polter’ with ‘geist’ doesn’t seem to work but maybe that’s the link it has with the movie itself.
We see a new mum moving into a rented home and it doesn’t take long for some spooky happenings to start. She has her mum alongside her for most of the movie aswell as the family friend and landlord who appears at the drop of a hat. People start dying in and around the house in mysterious circumstances and all after the new mum discovers a Ouija Board in the back garden.

I know a guy whose relative was a witch. An honest to goodness witch. One of the things she passed on to our friend here was never fuck around with a Ouija board. If a real witch is telling you that don't you think that's enough of a authority on the issue to heed the warning? But if we listened to authority figures then we'd missed out on this whole sub-genre of people fucking around with Ouija boards and getting into trouble. Which leads us to John R. Walker's indie horror flick Ouijageist which is now available on digital and DVD today from Wide Eye Releasing. One part ouija board. One part poltergeist. All parts indie horror fun? "Do you believe in curses, mum?" Wild Eye Releasing has debuted an official Us trailer for an indie horror titled Ouijageist, the latest horror feature from English filmmaker John R. Walker. From that title alone, it's obvious this will be junk. They can't even legally call it a "Ouija" board. After renting a new apartment, a single mom finds a spirit board buried in the backyard, which conjures the spirits of a group of evil entities who then haunt her and her family. A local priest is enlisted to help her put these souls to rest forever. Lois Wilkinson stars, with Lesley Scoble, Roger Shepherd, Gabriella Calderone, Nathan Head, and Kristofer Dayne. Described as "a frightening new supernatural spooker in the tradition of The Conjuring." This was already released in Europe last year, and is only now arriving direct-to-vod in the Us this month. Tony Jopia takes that premise one step further with his B-Movie creature feature Cute Little Buggers.
When hostile aliens land on earth with the intension of taking over the planet to save their own race, they choose to mutate the local rabbit population. Blending the rabbits with alien DNA, they knowingly unleashed the cute but vicious blood thirsty creatures on the unsuspecting locals. As the butchered bodies starts piling and the rampant rabbits begin to rampage, the locals are forced to...

They're out of this world, out of control and out to get you...at least according to the new and extremely early piece of teaser artwork for 'Cute Little Buggers'. The new British comedy horror project from director Tony Jopia has been inspired by classic little creature features from the past such as 'Critters' and 'Gremlins' but has the added bonus of a third dimension as the feature will hit theatres in 3D. The UK quad poster, shown below, features a couple of furry claws scratching along the title and just hinting at what the little buggers will look like. The movie stars Caroline Monroe, Joe Egan, Kristofer Dayne, Gary Martin, John R. Walker, Dani Thompson, Jess Jantschek, Samar Sarila, Jo Price, Sarah Bennett and Leslie Grantham and it'll land in UK theatres from 1 June 2014....

"I wanted to make a full-on 80's style blood splattering gore film that holds that nostalgic feel you can only get from those types of movies they used to make in the 80's," said the director. "My friends...

A teaser trailer for Chilean-born director Tony Jopia's bloody British horror tale DeadTime has reared its ever screaming head, and we've got your chance to dig on it right here!
From the Press Release
New British horror movie DeadTime hails from the West Midlands in the UK and released its teaser trailer today. Directed by Tony Jopia and produced by novelist Dominic Took, the film centres around a rock 'n metal band whose members' careers have run aground.
Turning to their record label producer, played by Terry Christian of TV’s “The Word”, for help, they are sent to a dingy old studio in Wednesbury to utilise their “deadtime” and create their new “magnum opus”. Only moments after finishing their first track, one of the group turns up dead, killed in one of the most stomach-churning ways to hit the horror genre yet.
Director Jopia says, “DeadTime was great...
