After short relationships with Jan Cremer and Wally Tax, among others, she married the American Michael C. Whelden in 1968. The couple withdrew to Andijk, led a hippie existence and made long journeys from there to the Near and Far East.
She participated in two programs of Ramses Shaffy: Shaffy Chantant and Shaffy Wrong (Verkeerd). In that last program she sang Released by Bob Dylan.
After training as a nurse, she became a celebrated fashion model in the Netherlands and abroad in the 1960s.
Under the pseudonym Magillicutty she took part as a singer in 1971 in a free jazz concert in the German Donaueschingen , with, among others, Don Cherry, Willem Breuker and Han Bennink.
In addition to all the important Dutch couturiers (Holthaus, Heymans, Govers), Loes Hamel was also a fashion model for Pierre Cardin in Paris.
