In November 2013, he revealed his homosexuality during an interview for the British daily The Independent, while indicating that he did not play it in the interpretation of his roles: "Fortunately, nowadays, people don't perceive homosexuality as a defect. But it's also not a quality, like kindness. Or a talent, like knowing how to play the banjo. It's simply a fact. Of course, that's part of what I'm sending back, but I don't want to play with it. I'm not advertising it; I think it's important when you're an actor. But there's a difference between privacy and secrecy, and I'm not a secretive person. All I really want to do is continue doing my job, which is pretending to be a bunch of different people. It's as simple as that. »

Tall, graceful, supremely accomplished American actress, singer, dancer and choreographer Paula Kelly was born in Jacksonville, Florida, one of three daughters, to Ruth and Lehman Kelly. The family moved to Harlem in New York when she was six years old. Unlike her siblings, she had strong musical inclinations which were recognised early on by her father (himself a jazz musician), who enrolled her in the Fiorello LaGuardia High School of Music & Art. Paula excelled as a star pupil. This opened doors to an audition at the prestigious Juilliard School and led to a four-year scholarship. Having trained under the academy's first director of dance, Martha Hill, she graduated in 1964 and that same year made her debut on Broadway. During much of the 1960s, specialising in modern dance, she performed with such luminaries as Martha Graham and Alvin Ailey and went on tour as a dancer with Harry Belafonte.
The inevitable breakthrough to popular success came when she was cast as Helene (taxi dancer at the Fandango Ballroom) in London's West End production of "Sweet Charity" (1967), directed and choreographed by Bob Fosse. Paula ended up winning the London Variety Award for Best Supporting Actress. The play itself enjoyed a healthy run but was ultimately eclipsed by the motion picture Sweet Charity (1969), for which Paula was able to recreate her stage role. Now firmly established on the screen, she went on to sing and dance in a number of musical television specials and/or variety shows headlining Gene Kelly (with whom she performed a duet), Dean Martin, Quincy Jones, Richard Pryor and former Sweet Charity co-star Sammy Davis Jr.. She also appeared as Tiger Lily, teaming up with Danny Kaye and Mia Farrow for the BBC production of Peter Pan (1976), as well as taking on the dual role of co-choreographer. In 1971, she starred in a Los Angeles stage production of the all-singing, all-dancing musical revue "Don't Bother Me, I Can't Cope", for which she won the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award.
Since the popularity of musicals had waned by the early 1970s, Paula had little choice but to take on straight dramatic acting roles. On several occasions she provided the female interest in a series of fashionable, sassy, tough blaxploitation films, playing cool, happening chicks opposite action men like Robert Hooks, Paul Winfield and Thalmus Rasulala (and often rising above the routine dramatic material afforded her). She was Leggy Peggy in the cult comedy Uptown Saturday Night (1974) with Sidney Poitier, Bill Cosby and Richard Pryor and had featured roles in the sci-fi classics The Andromeda Strain (1971) and Soylent Green (1973). She also appeared in many television guest spots, with notable recurring roles in The Streets of San Francisco (1972), Police Woman (1974) and the sitcom Night Court (1984), for which she received the first of two Emmy Award nominations. She retired from acting in 1999. Her husband was the British film and television director Don Chaffey, who predeceased her in 1990.

Judy Sheindlin (born under the name Judith Susan Blum) is an American court show arbitrator and television producer from Brooklyn, New York City. She is also a former prosecutor and family court judge. She presided over the long-running court show "Judge Judy" (1996-2021), which "adjudicated real-life small-claims disputes within a simulated courtroom set". It was the highest Nielsen-rated court show for 25 years. She subsequently presided over "Judy Justice" (2021-), the first standard courtroom series to broadcast new episodes exclusively through a streaming service.
In 1942, Sheindlin was born in Brooklyn to a Jewish family. Her ancestors were primarily German Jews and Russian Jews. Her father was the dentist Murray Blum. Her mother, Ethel, worked as an office manager. Sheindlin received her secondary education at the James Madison High School, an elite public high school located in the Madison subsection of the Sheepshead Bay neighborhood of Brooklyn. The high school offers students an education in the workings of American legal institutions. Sheindlin graduated in 1960.
Sheindlin started her college education at the American University, a private research university which was located in Washington, D.C. The university has been affiliated with the United Methodist Church since its foundation, but religious affiliation is not a criterion for admission. Sheindlin graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in government.
Sheindlin finished her law school education at the New York Law School, a private law school located in Tribeca, New York City. She earned her Juris Doctor degree in 1965, and passed the New York state bar examination within the same year. She was soon hired as as a corporate lawyer by a cosmetics firm. She worked for them until 1967.
In 1964, Sheindlin had married her first husband Ronald Levy. Levy later became a prosecutor in juvenile court. They had two children within the first years of their marriage. In 1967, Sheindlin resigned from her job to focus for a while in the upbringing of her young children. This marriage lasted until 1976, and ended in a divorce.
In 1972, Sheindlin became a prosecutor in the New York family court system. In her role as a lawyer, Sheindlin prosecuted child abuse cases, domestic violence and juvenile crime. She acquired a reputation for her "no-nonsense" attitude. In 1977, she married the judge Jerry Sheindlin. She helped raise her three stepchildren, two of which pursued legal careers of their own.
In 1982, Sheindlin was appointed as a criminal court judge by Ed Koch, the Mayor of New York City (1924-2013, term 1978-1989). In 1986, she was promoted to the rank of the supervising judge in the family court's Manhattan division. She acquired a reputation for toughness and harshness in her new role. In 1993, Sheindlin was the subject of an article in the "Los Angeles Times". This helped her gain celebrity status. She was soon featured in a segment on "60 Minutes". She started work on her first book: "Don't Pee on My Leg and Tell Me It's Raining" (1996).
Sheindlin retired as a judge in 1996. She had reportedly heard more than 20,000 cases in her career. She accepted an offer to preside in a new reality courtroom series, which became the ratings hit "Judge Judy". Her viewers reportedly liked to see "wrongdoers publicly humiliated by a strong authority figure". Sheindlin won several awards and honors over the following two decades. In 2006, she received her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In March 2011, Sheindlin was hospitalized after suffering a a mini-stroke. This did not prevent her from renewing her contract, or from negotiating an annual salary increase. She signed her new contract in May 2011. In August 2017, she renewed her contract for "Judge Judy" for the final time. By 2020, Sheindlin had decided that she would end her show at the time of its 25th season anniversary. The decision was motivated in part by her increasingly poor relationship with the conglomerate ViacomCBS, and by legal disputes with the talent agency Rebel Entertainment.
"Judge Judy" broadcast its final episode in July 2021. By that time, Sheindlin had started work in the production of her new show, "Judy Justice". Its first episode was broadcast in November 2021. The program aired its first-run episodes through the streaming service Amazon Freevee. Sheindlin credited her young adult granddaughter with providing input for this show's format. A second season was scheduled to appear in November 2022.
By 2022, Sheindlin was 80-years-old. Though she has considered retirement from television at various point, she has been reluctant to follow through with her retirement plans. She has admitted in past interviews that she feels engaged by her work, and that she considers herself able to still reach an audience. After a show business career of 26 years, she has become one of the most acclaimed figures in American television.- Actor

Brooklyn born Tony Ganios was literally forced into the film business at the tender age of 18 when his even larger and more powerful uncle Pete made him cut short a powerlifting workout at the Sheridan Square Gym in Manhattan to audition for director Philip Kaufman. As a result, Tony made his film debut as the teen paladin "Perry" in Kaufman's cult classic The Wanderers (1979). His initial performance was well liked by audiences and soon he was dancing with Sally Field in Back Roads (1981) in a role he landed by hurling the film's script into the chest of its director. Next, he played a former NFL defensive end turned mountain man in the Lawrence Kasdan scripted John Belushi romantic comedy Continental Divide (1981) before being cast by writer/director Bob Clark as the well hung high school senior "Meat" in the raunchy, but highly successful comedy Porky's (1981). One of Tony's most unforgettable roles was as that ill-fated member of the terrorist team in the hit action film Die Hard 2 (1990) who was fatally dispatched by Bruce Willis with an eye bound icicle. Some of his other film and television credits include The Taking of Beverly Hills (1991), Ring of the Musketeers (1992), and Rising Sun (1993), where he revisited his matchstick chewing Wanderers hero as an adversary for Sean Connery. He is also known for his recurring comedic role as a muscular mob lawyer on the Emmy Award winning series Wiseguy (1987).
An ancient military history and period weapons expert, Ganios is one of Brazilian jiu jitsu pioneer and UFC founder Rorion Gracie's original students. Although retired from acting since 1993, in 2000 Tony and Police Academy veteran Leslie Easterbrook supplied voices for the low budget YouTube animated series "Bad Vlad" under the pseudonyms Nick Fury and Honour Lawrence in what he described as one of the most purely fun performances of his career. The 2014 feature film Daddies' Girls will not only mark Tony Ganios' return to the big screen, but his debut as a producer and screenwriter as well.- Leonard Rossiter was born on October 21st, 1926 in Liverpool. His roles as "Rigsby" in Rising Damp (1974) and the title role in The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin (1976) made him a household name, and his Cinzano commercials with Joan Collins were comic masterpieces. A keen sportsman, he excelled in squash, tennis and football. He was also a connoisseur of fine wines. His busy career came to a tragically premature end on October 5th 1984, just sixteen days short of his 58th birthday. English character actress Vivian Kay Pickles is one of three siblings born in London and educated at Le Collège Feminin de Bouffément in Paris, a women's college set up in 1924. Her uncle was Wilfred Pickles, a veteran actor and radio broadcaster. Vivian began her acting career aged fourteen, playing the lead in Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland (1946) in an early BBC television production. She completed her training as a dancer at the Aida Foster Drama School and graduated from there to repertory theatre and to West End revues, alternating with appearances on the screen. During the fifties and early sixties, she was much acclaimed for her performances in the new wave of 'kitchen sink' realism plays by authors like John Osborne and Willis Hall.
On screen, Vivian made her breakthrough in the title role of Ken Russell's biopic Isadora (1966), winning the award for Best Actress at the 1967 Monte Carlo International TV Festival. She followed this with two back-to-back successes: as the bohemian academic Alva Hodson in Sunday Bloody Sunday (1971) and as Harold Chasen's controlling, unsentimental socialite mother in Hal Ashby's black comedy Harold and Maude (1971). New York Times reviewer Vincent Canby commented "Because Vivian Pickles is an actress who is particularly gifted at exaggerating understatements, many of Mrs. Chasen's reactions to Harold's bleak pranks are as funny as they are meant to be". Vivian was also cast in two of Lindsay Anderson's films, O Lucky Man! (1973) and (as Matron) in the chaotic satire Britannia Hospital (1982).
For TV, Vivian has often played pivotal supporting roles in literary adaptations or period drama: Catherine Linton in Wuthering Heights (1948), Mrs. Bennett in Pride and Prejudice (1967), Mary Stuart in Elizabeth R (1971), Lenin's wife Nadezhda Krupskaya in Nicholas and Alexandra (1971), Maxim de Winter's loquacious sister Beatrice in Rebecca (1979), Martha Yellan in Jamaica Inn (1983), Mrs. Shipley in The Lives of Benjamin Franklin (1974) and the formidable Aunt Dahlia in Jeeves and Wooster (1990). She has also provided her voice for BBC radio dramatisations as P.G. Wodehouse's Aunt Dahlia and girls' school headmistress Dame Daphne Winkworth (1989), as well as Mrs. Cratchit in the Dickens classic A Christmas Carol (1990). She has multiple television credits as storyteller of the children's program Jackanory (1965) between 1969 and 1978, in addition to a recurring part in the 'Uncle Jack' kid's show of the early 90s as eccentric scientist Cynthia Birdwood.
