Director Erik Bloomquist (Ten Minutes to Midnight, Long Lost) is back with slasher throwback She Came from the Woods, which is headed home this weekend.
After being released in theaters earlier this year, She Came from the Woods is now slashing its way onto Tubi on Saturday, June 10. Check out a gallery of exclusive character posters below, along with the previously released trailer for the 1980s-style summer camp slasher.
In She Came from the Woods, “A group of counselors unleashes a decades-old evil, long buried secrets, and bloody mayhem on the last night of summer camp in 1987.”
Matt Donato wrote in his review for Bloody Disgusting, “Even as a warmup act to the heavy hitters worshiped by slasher fans since the dawn of internet forums, She Came from the Woods stands its ground as an example of how no subgenre is dead with the proper approach.”

We’re hooked on this psychological drama/mystery about the decades-old cold case of free-spirited first-year college student Alison Thomas (West Duchovny) who vanished while vacationing with her family on an idyllic Caribbean Island, Saint X. Twenty years later, her younger sister Emily (Alycia Debnam-Carey), a documentary editor, is determined to find out what happened, which worries her parents, Mia (Betsy Brandt) and Bill (Michael Park). The thriller unfolds in a mix of flashbacks to Alison’s final days, and Emily’s present-day hunt for answers. “It’s every parent’s worst nightmare,” Brandt says. “On the island, there’s a little bit of a whodunit. You see a cast of characters and everybody’s a suspect. The 20-year jump was something that so interested me. To see this couple, and this woman, pick up the pieces and keep living her life… you have to make a choice every day...

Alycia Debnam-Carey leaves zombies behind for her follow-up to Fear the Walking Dead.
On Saint X, Debnam-Carey takes on the role of Emily Thomas, an environmental documentary editor trying to unmask the truth about her sister Alison's (West Duchovny) death several years before.
The series is based on the novel of the same name by Alexis Schaitkin.
Debnam-Carey revealed exclusively to TV Fanatic that she chose not to read the book because she knew there would be distinct changes in the series.
"I didn't want to cross-pollinate what was happening on set versus in the book," the star shares.
"So I decided to just focus on the scripts and that character arc as it was being written for the show."
The star revealed that she waited to read the book until production was completed, and she hopes fans of the show will discover the book.

“Saint X,” Alexis Schaitkin’s acclaimed 2020 novel, has roiling depth beneath its placid surface, much like the pristine waters of the Caribbean island where it takes place. The body of a young American girl washes ashore in those tropical tides, and because her death incites the story, “Saint X” initially cuts the figure of a thriller. Yes, the book slowly unfurls the details behind her untimely demise. But the story isn’t really about what happened, it’s about the grief, recrimination and obsession that consumes the survivors over time. It’s a meditation on trauma, shot through with social commentary and disguised as a nondescript “imperiled woman” beach read.
Hulu’s series adaptation of “Saint X” hews closely to its source material, which winds up being as much a curse as a gift. The show also feints at a proper whodunnit, then builds to a nuanced, if anticlimactic conclusion,...

It’s always a tragedy when a family member dies. When a missing young woman turns up dead , only her enterprising sister can figure out the truth of what happened to her. You can watch Saint X with a 30-Day Free Trial of Hulu.

In a moment of emotional crisis, Alison (West Duchovny) blurts out the suspicion that’s been weighing on her to a stranger in the bathroom: “Am I generic?” she sobs. And though the stranger assures her that she’s not, Saint X takes a more nuanced view.
In premise, the series would seem to be a fairly standard take on the dead-white-girl narrative, with Alison’s eventual unexplained death serving as the mystery at the heart of the plot. But as with the 2020 Alexis Schaitkin novel it’s based on, it upends those tropes by offering a kaleidoscope of perspectives that reconsider what kind of stories we expect from tragedies like these, and who gets to be at their center — or it aims to, anyway. Unfortunately, an accumulation of minor fumbles leaves what could’ve been an incisive subversion of a familiar story feeling, instead, more like a replication of it.

Even if you’ve signed up for every streaming service out there, it can feel monumental when a title moves from one to another. In April, Netflix mainstay “New Girl” moves to Hulu; still streaming, but not where fans are used to finding it — like rearranging the furniture in your apartment and waking up surprised every day that the couch is over there now.
But what’s important is that “New Girl” lives on, now joining Hulu’s own TV and movie library and originals from Freeform, FX, National Geographic, and more. Later in the month, Leila Gerstein’s “Saint X” — based on the novel by Alexis Schaitkin — premieres with three episodes, recounting the story of a young girl found dead during a family vacation and the sister piecing it together years later. Alycia Debnam-Carey, Josh Bonzie, West Duchovny, Jayden Elijah, Bre Francis, Kenlee Anaya Townsend, Betsy Brandt, and Michael Park star.

If you didn’t know Erik Bloomquist’s She Came from the Woods loves the 80s like Pac-Man loves Mrs. Pac-Man, the first few minutes should sell a tubular on-screen time warp. Hormonal camp counselors in short shorts prepare for summer’s end while Kim Wilde’s “Kids In America” blares over opening credits like any other Camp Crystal Lake or Camp Arawak copycat. Bloomquist imbues a love of 80s sleepaway horror titles into a contemporary take on Friday the 13th, The Burning, Madman — some titles are even name-dropped in dialogue. It’s hardly a modern satire like Cabin in the Woods but avoids feeling redundant through recreations of golden-age genre magic that’s gone out of style. There’s a passionate attempt to prove life can find new ways in a decade’s old slasher formula, and She Came from the Woods keeps the beat(ings) alive for now.

In his Frightfest review, James Doherty wrote that She Came from the Woods is a "fun and entertaining campfire tale," and as someone who saw the movie as part of last year's Popcorn Frights Film Festival lineup, I can concur that the latest film from director Erik Bloomquist (Ten Minutes to Midnight) definitely scratches that summer camp slasher itch. Ahead of the film's February 10th theatrical release from Mainframe Pictures, the official trailer has now been released, giving viewers a look at the horrors unleashed at Camp Briarbrook, set fittingly to the tune of Kim Wilde's ’80s anthem "Kids in America."

"Let's try not to die tonight." Mainframe Pictures has revealed an official trailer for an indie horror comedy titled She Came from the Woods, opening in limited US theaters starting in February soon. It first premiered at FrightFest last year, but didn't hit any other fests in the fall. In this ode to '80s slasher horror, a group of dumb camp counselors accidentally unleash a decades' old evil on the last night of summer camp. As the mayhem and madness turn bloody, the staff of "Camp Briarbrook" are forced to confront what stories are worth telling and what secrets worth keeping. The horror comedy stars Cara Buono (from Stranger Things), William Sadler (Bill & Ted), Spencer List, Clare Foley, Michael Park, Tyler Elliot Burke, Adam Weppler, Ehad Berisha, Giselle Torres, and Dań Leahy. This looks, ahem, campy and not that scary but fun, another throwback riff on 1980s horror...

James Van Der Beek stopped by "Late Night with Seth Meyers" Thursday (March 27) to talk about his new show "Friends with Better Lives." All anyone really wanted to hear about was "Dawson's Creek," though. Luckily, he was more than happy to oblige.
One thing about the "Dawson's Creek" experience that stands out to Van Der Beek is the stalkers he gained through being a teen heartthrob. Sure, there was no end of teen girls who squealed with delight whenever they saw him, but they weren't the only ones enamored with Dawson.
"My favorite was this older guy, who would make me mix tapes which were comprised of songs from shows I had actually been in," Van Der Beek says. "He would come to Wilmington, where we shot 'Dawson's Creek', every year on my birthday to try and give me a birthday card. So every year on my birthday...

To break up the slew of interview opportunities that float my way during Comic-Con that mostly focus on the studio fare, I jump at the chance to meet Jim Mickle (Mulberry Street, Stakeland) at a cafe on 5th avenue in San Diego's Gaslamp District. At the height of Comic-Con, 5th avenue is noisy and insane. The nerd version of Mardi Gras.
Mickle and I make it work, however, sitting on the patio outside of the cafe to talk about his latest film, We Are What We Are, a remake of the Jorge Grau film of the same name. eOne picked up the remake following a debut at Sundance and plans to release it September 27th in a limited theatrical run. Ambyr Childers, Julia Garner, Bill Sage and Michael Park star. Just past the synopsis inside, read our discussion with Mickle who explains why he took on the redo and confesses his love for Ravenous.
