Mark Knopfler has teamed up with a host of fellow guitar legends to record a version of his song “Going Home (Theme from Local Hero)” to raise funds for Teenage Cancer Trust and Teen Cancer America.
The Dire Straits frontman tapped Eric Clapton, Slash (Guns N’ Roses), David Gilmour (Pink Floyd), Brian May (Queen), Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath), Pete Townshend (The Who), Alex Lifeson (Rush), Bruce Springsteen, Ronnie Wood (The Rolling Stones), Joan Jett, and many more, forming what he has dubbed “Mark Knopfler’s Guitar Heroes.” Notably, the star-studded version opens with the final recorded guitar track by the late Jeff Beck.
Knopfler’s longtime collaborator Guy Fletcher handled the production of the track, which might be the greatest assemblage of guitar talent to co-exist on a single song. The Sgt. Pepper‘s-style artwork was created by Sir Peter Blake.

Original The Good Doctor cast member Chuku Modu is once again a series regular on the ABC medical drama, playing Dr. Jared Kalu.
Modu, who originally returned midway through last season as a recurring, has been promoted to regular for the upcoming seventh season, now in production.
Modu’s surgical resident Dr. Jared Kalu was a breakout character in Season 1. He got into trouble for punching a doctor who had sexually harassed his girlfriend, resident Claire Browne (Antonia Thomas) and ultimately headed to Colorado for a surgeon job.
Kalu eventually left that job to become a concierge doctor, which is how he ended up back at San Jose’s St. Bonaventure Hospital. He ended up sticking around his old stumping grounds.
The full-time return of Modu, first reported by TVLine, follows the exit of fellow original Good Doctor cast member Will Harper who is running for Senate. Brandon Larracuente also...

The Beatles‘ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band probably has the most famous album artwork ever. Despite this, one of the artists who created the cover wasn’t much of a Beatlemaniac. At the time, she was more interested in one of the singers who inspired The Beatles. She discussed what she thought of the Fab Four after spending some time with them.
An artist compared working on The Beatles’ ‘Sgt. Pepper’ cover to meeting Marilyn Monroe
Jann Haworth and her then-husband Peter Blake were the artists behind the Sgt. Pepper artwork. During a 2017 interview with Good Times, Haworth revealed she wasn’t too impressed with The Beatles at the time.
“I always had a fairly detached sense with The Beatles, because my ear was American and I was interested in, you know, Bo Diddley and that area of music,” she said. “Chuck Berry and stuff was what I was tuned to.

London – A psychedelic eye mosaic commissioned by John Lennon for the swimming pool at his Kenwood home in Surrey in 1965 leads Bonhams’ Rock, Pop & Film sale on Wednesday 29 November at Knightsbridge, London.
Claire Tole-Moir, Bonhams Head of Popular Culture in London, commented: “This monumental mosaic, commissioned by John Lennon is a striking example of the Beatle’s artistic vision and influences. Lennon’s Kenwood home in the English countryside was a place of respite from all the public attention he experienced during the height of The Beatles’ popularity. It’s said Lennon would spend idle hours near the swimming pool and that the mosaic could even be seen from his favoured ‘sunroom’ at the top of the house. With Kenwood still under private ownership, it is very rare to see anything from when John Lennon lived there, making the ‘Psychedelic Eye’ mosaic an incredibly important artefact of Beatles history.”

ABC continues to shore up its lineup for the 2023-24 season.

The Good Doctor remains among ABC’s most watched scripted shows, particularly with delayed and cross-platform viewing. The show’s same-day average of 3.3 million viewers jumps to 9.1 million after five weeks of multiplatform viewing, and its rating among the key advertising demographic of adults 18-49 grows nearly sixfold, from 0.32 to 1.85. The Beatles have many iconic album covers, yet the most intriguing one is the artwork for 1967’s Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. The artwork is a piece of colorful psychedelia that features The Beatles in flamboyant outfits surrounded by cutouts of various historical figures. 56 years ago today, The Beatles shot the album cover that has achieved legendary status.

Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band is one of The Beatles’ most experimental albums. It experimented with surreal lyrics and unique instrumentations. For example, a few songs featured the sitar, like “Within You Without You”, while others, like “A Day in the Life”, utilized orchestras. The album is also distinct because the fab four took on alter egos, pretending to be fictional characters in a band.

Paul McCartney calls one of his songs his “nod to comic books being high art.” The former Beatle loved reading comics and thought writing a song about them would be cool. Like other art, he felt comic book art deserved to be in galleries worldwide.
Paul McCartney | Evening Standard/Getty Images Paul McCartney said comic books were real art
In his book, The Lyrics: 1956 to the Present, Paul wrote that he read many comic books around 1975. As far as he was concerned, they were real art. He appreciated the skill – not to mention the perspective and imagination – it took to make the illustrations.
Paul has always thought pop art and comic book art are “near to madness.” He studied John Dryden in school and has always been struck by his lines: “Great wits are sure to madness near allied, And thin partitions do their bounds divide.”
Pop art reached its peak in the 1960s.

In an airy but compact studio high in a converted Victorian bus factory in Islington, the artist known as Slawn is showing me around the kind of work that led to his being tapped to design this year’s Brit Awards statuette.
His north-London space is filled with people (unidentified hipsters on beanbags tapping at laptops), boxed superhero figurines, canvases stacked against the wall and depictions of the 22-year-old’s nemesis: the Nigerian policeman. There are also two man-sized sculptures of rabbits, shaped like penises, which might be a shock for the London fashion store that commissioned them to mark the Chinese Year of the Rabbit. And there’s some royal porn.
Not pictured: the aeroplane “in some airfield somewhere” that features daubings of dicks “on the underside of the wing. It hasn’t flown yet, but I tried to get them to fly over the palace.”

Larracuente’s Dr. Daniel “Danny” Perez is a first-year surgical resident at St. Bonaventure Hospital. But Perez’s dazzling smile hides a painful past, including a years-long struggle with opioid addiction. Now clean for five years, his journey of recovery often makes him a better, more compassionate doctor… while also complicating his life at St. Bonaventure, professionally and personally.

ABC’s The Good Doctor season five ended with Shaun and Lea getting married followed by a brutal attack that served up a heartstopping cliffhanger. And it appears season six episode one will pick up just minutes after the finale ended. Episode one, “Afterparty,” was directed by Mike Listo from a script by Peter Blake and will air on Monday, October 3, 2022 at 10pm Et/Pt.
In an interview with TVLine, executive producer David Shore discussed what’s in store for fans when they tune into the season six premiere. “The first episode has a huge amount of intensity and fun, but it’s difficult because it’s the immediate fallout [from the finale]… Lim’s journey is going to be a big part of it, we have some nice things planned for Glassman, and, of course, nothing but wedded bliss for Shaun and Lea.”

It's about time!
After three months of one wrong suspect's arrest after another, Days of Our Lives spoilers during the week of 9-19-22 suggest we'll finally learn who killed Abigail.
Some fans have a theory about who it is that wouldn't make much sense character-wise, but that's nothing new for Days of Our Lives. Let's hope it's someone else!
Everything comes together when Sonny recalls that his attacker smelled like vanilla. This strange clue suggests someone who works in a restaurant or bakery.
The killer is male, at least according to the spoiler video, so that eliminates Chanel and Allie as suspects (although there is that question of why later someone will spray paint the word 'murderer' on the bakery storefront!).

April Shih and Jen Goyne Blake first met in 2017 at the Sundance Institute’s Episodic Story Lab, a program where up-and-coming TV writers workshop their pilot scripts in the idyllic environment of the Utah mountain resort. Blake, who had been a script analyst at William Morris, was there as the founding director of the lab, and Shih, who would go on to be a staff writer on shows like You’re the Worst, Mrs. America and Fargo, was there to work on a dramedy called Tilted.
“We saw the benefit of being able to go to a space somewhere in nature, away from your normal routine, and how that immediately drops you into your creative process,” says Shih of the Sundance Lab experience. Over the years, the duo stayed in touch and mused about working together someday and re-creating some of the magic they’d felt in Utah.

Toronto, Feb 5 (Ians) People undergoing long-term dialysis are almost four times more likely to die from Covid-19 and should be prioritized for vaccination, a new study suggests.
"As the Covid-19 pandemic proceeds, focused efforts should be made to protect this population from infection including prioritizing patients on long-term dialysis and the staff treating them for Sars-CoV-2 vaccination," said researcher Peter Blake, Professor at the Western University in Canada.
For the study, published in Cmaj (Canadian Medical Association Journal), the researchers looked at data on 12,501 patients undergoing long-term dialysis, of whom 187 (1.5 per cent) were diagnosed with Sars-CoV-2 infection.
Of these, 53 people (28.3 per cent) died and 117 (62.6 per cent) were admitted to hospital, the researchers said.
By contrast, uninfected people who were receiving dialysis during that period had a death rate of 5.8 per cent and a hospitalization rate of 27 per cent.
According to the researchers, since this analysis and particularly in the last two months,...

The first Who album in 13 years opens with a perfectly cynical Pete Townshend lyric: “I don’t care/I know you’re gonna hate this song.” But it’s kind of hard to hate something that feels so familiar. Roger Daltrey sings the lyric and the ones that follow, claiming the song isn’t “new” or “diverse,” with the same anger and conviction as the Who’s earliest music, recorded more than half a century ago, and the melody is almost identical to the opening “I don’t mind” of...

Well, now it is. Hart Dyke has since been recruited to chronicle the long life of 007. The producers of the James Bond films, Barbara Broccoli and Eon Productions, commissioned Hart Dyke to paint each of the six Bond actors in the role as part of the celebration of 50 years of the dynamic franchise.
His portraits of Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig show them all in tuxedo and bow tie and have already been used...

The sibling - who served as Paul's best man - spoke outside the house in St. John's Wood where the reception took place, with such guests who include fellow Beatle Ringo Starr, Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood, the bride's second cousin Barbara Walters,...

He could be warm and witty... or cruel and obnoxious. But there was never any doubt he was a true artist. We recall the life and times of Ian Dury, now the subject of both a new film and biography
In Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll, the new Ian Dury biopic, there is a scene that faithfully records the first time Dury met his songwriting partner, Chaz Jankel. It is May 1976 and the singer has just hobbled off stage after a particularly ramshackle London pub gig with his band of bedraggled misfits, Kilburn & the High Roads. The young, clean-cut Jankel strolls into the dressing room, grinning widely, and introduces himself. "Do I know you?" asks Dury, fixing him with a malevolent stare. "No," replies Jankel, still grinning. "Well do us a favour then," barks Dury, "and fuck off!"
Kilburn's guitarist Ed Speight convinced Jankel to return to the dressing room. In doing so,...
