Live action TV programs with 100,000+ votes
by adampkalb | created - 23 Jul 2020 | updated - 4 days ago | PublicMost theatrical films with a big budget or good marketing that quickly gain a high profile easily get 100,000 votes in 2 years when that many people have seen them in theaters. For TV shows, it usually takes a lot longer, especially when most would wait through an entire first season before sharing their thoughts on it. The most popular or profitable TV shows do get 100,000 user ratings and become a cult classic because they stand the test of time in syndication, so - I decided to list 100 of them here! It is fun to do everything in hundreds. That's when you know you have reached the triple digits. I doubt any Disney or Nickelodeon sitcoms will make it to 100,000 anytime soon. For now, the ones with the most user ratings are iCarly at 45% and Hannah Montana at 44%. Now, let's get this list up to 100,000 views, shall we?
TV shows that get a movie can have the movie listed with them, like Star Trek or The X-Files, but movies that get a TV show later, like the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Agents of SHIELD or Star Wars' The Mandalorian, are not included with the series on this list. I also intentionally avoided premium cable shows that easily get many user ratings fast such as The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, The Wire, Weeds and Game of Thrones. But look out for a few surprises along the way! A few of these shows are so popular, some individual episodes made it to 100,000. One day in the far future, I will invent a user list for live-action and animated episodes of TV that have 100,000 votes. And a list of TV shows with more votes than The Simpsons. And a user list for the non-South Park credits of Trey Parker, Matt Stone, April Stewart and Mona Marshall. Except for video games. I know only 3/5 of these TV shows passed 100,000, but anytime later, we could discover new TV shows that got close to 100,000 by the time they were 2 years old!
TV shows with 100,000+ votes are not as common as movies with 100,000+ votes because a single season of TV is more time-consuming to watch, but you can watch large portions each day. However, whether they are in syndication or not, if they sell well enough on DVDs, streaming services, or other future means of watching things after they originally aired, and they have that wide appeal to cross 100,000+ in the post-imdb era, and people who watched it new can rate it here, they are likely to stand the test of time. I have a mental algorithm for the quantity of user ratings for a movie, a series or an episode based on how long it took them to get that much between their original premiere and the present day they are viewed here. Since Internet Movie Data Base started on October 17, 1990, I can assume that every title from before 1990 has been here since October 17, 1990 through December 31, 1991.
If I find anything new and popular under 2 years old, I give it a chance to grow in popularity and see how many user ratings it gets before I decide to delete it.
#1 highest series: Breaking Bad
#10 highest series: Mr. Robot
#100 highest series: Scream Queens
Update: As of September 21, 2020, Adam Kalb refuses to add any new TV shows until we see how high the other shows get on Hawkeye's 2-year anniversary. When 88 of them reach 100,000, it will be easier to decide which ones to delete.

Mindy Kaling was a real trailblazer back in the late 2000s to be a woman of color who was a main actor, a producer and a writer for 8 seasons of The Office since she was 25! (She left before the final season to create The Mindy Project.) I felt very bad for her when I learned she was 1 in 2 female writers for The Office, and the other 12 male writers would sexually harass her every day. To make matters worse, when The Office was nominated for an Emmy in 2009, the Television Academy removed her from the list of producers when there were too many, and they were sexist and racist to think that she, a woman of color and the youngest writer on staff, was not capable of doing it all. She needed the word of her white male colleagues to get her back on the Television Academy's producer list. We should hope that the Television Academy today will not let this happen to the next Mindy Kaling - as in, the next person of color in a sitcom to be one of the main cast members AND a writer/producer in their 20s. Which is a very impressive feat for anyone at an early inexperienced age, not just a woman of color.

Three different, but related, families face trials and tribulations in their own uniquely comedic ways.
Stars: Ed O'Neill, Sofía Vergara, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell
Votes: 483,602
I find it fascinating how, 12 years after the end of Married With Children, Ed O'Neill gets to be the star of another family-centric sitcom that aired for 11 seasons, although it is a very different show from Married With Children. Spoilers!!! The person filming the families is Jimmy Kimmel. He sleeps in the Dunphys' bathtub. He was working from home before anybody else in the 2020 lockdown. Modern Family finished filming on February 22, 2020, well before the lockdown started on March 13. It was brilliant how Connection Lost was 5 years ahead of COVID-19 by making the whole episode with characters recording each other on their devices from home (but not from the actors' homes, of course).

TV-14 | 22 min | Comedy, Crime
Comedy series following the exploits of Det. Jake Peralta and his diverse, lovable colleagues as they police the NYPD's 99th Precinct.
Stars: Andy Samberg, Stephanie Beatriz, Terry Crews, Melissa Fumero
Votes: 363,257
Before 2013, it seemed unrealistic for a white male-created sitcom to have 2 Latina female detectives, but Stephanie Beatriz got in anyway, so Melissa Gallo was no longer a token. It was very timely with how it talked about police brutality in Season 8 and had enough Halloween heists for almost every main character to win.
I was glad Gina missed 9 Season 5 episodes for maternity leave in 2017 after her actress had a baby on July 17, because she was a very annoying character and it prepared us for when she left for good in Season 6. I was also glad that Melissa Fumero didn't compromise Brooklyn 9-9 for her pregnancy in Season 3 the way Zooey Deschanel did for New Girl in 6 Season 5 episodes, as they have much bigger parts than Chelsea Peretti.
15. Mr. Robot (2015–2019)

Stars: Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, Sophia Di Martino, Wunmi Mosaku
Votes: 411,448
It is a very special treat to have common voice actress Tara Lyn Charendoff voicing Miss Minutes in a big-budget Marvel production. Not only does that make her a bit more famous to be in a big Disney+ series with Tom Hiddleston and Owen Wilson, it seems like the theatrical productions of The Powerpuff Girls Movie, My Little Pony: The Movie, and Teen Titans Go To The Movies finally got her somewhere bigger than any animated show's film of which she could be a part. I dream of giving the same level of fame to Ashleigh Ball when I become a film writer. In My Little Pony: The Movie, they have shared a cast credit with two big MCU stars, Zoe Saldana from Guardians of the Galaxy and Michael Pena from Ant-Man.

Stars: Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, Rob McElhenney, Kaitlin Olson
Votes: 251,858
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia's pilot only cost 85 to 200 dollars to film, and the fact that Charlie Day and Rob McElhenney could write and film such a cost-efficient comedy starring themselves might be why it is FX's longest-lasting show, and the longest-running comedy series on TV right now. Danny DeVito single-handedly saved this show and helped it go on as long as it did. Rob McElhenney, the creator and the actor portraying Mac, was told by a FX executive who knew Taxi's Danny DeVito, that if they didn't add a much more famous actor like him into the main cast, they would cancel the show, so Rob allowed them to bring him Danny. He played Dennis and Dee's father, Frank Reynolds.

TV-PG | 45 min | Action, Adventure, Drama
The missions of the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division.
Stars: Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Brett Dalton, Iain De Caestecker
Votes: 225,989
While Clark Gregg carried the Marvel Universe's main network TV branch in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Kat Dennings was in 2 Broke Girls and Randall Park was in Fresh Off the Boat before they reprised Darcy Lewis and Jimmy Woo in WandaVision. Descendants and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. made Canadian actress Dianne Doan famous in the US, and she loved working with Ming-Na Wen because she enjoyed Mulan when she was a kid, Dianne played Mulan's kid Lonnie in Descendants, and Ming-Na Wen looks like a real version of her animated character Mulan, which translates well to Dianne playing Ming-Na's movie daughter in a live-action Disney Channel film.

Stars: Zooey Deschanel, Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, Hannah Simone
Votes: 245,536
This show's filming schedule took a very interesting turn when Zooey Deschanel needed a maternity leave in 2015 and had a baby on October 20. The first 3 Season 5 episodes were filmed after Season 4 was done so that Jess Day could leave for a jury duty, then she was absent for the next 6 episodes in a row, and the first of them was called No Girl. It is very ironic how this show has "Girl" in the title, but only the boys - Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield and Lamorne Morris appear in every episode.

Stars: Kristen Bell, William Jackson Harper, Jameela Jamil, D'Arcy Carden
Votes: 189,405
The Good Place is one of the few broadcast network series I know to have 13-episode seasons at full length. Each season was filmed in the summer before the fall scheduled to air them, so Marc Evan Jackson and Jason Mantzoukas could have no scheduling conflicts with a few episodes in every season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Kristen Bell could act in Hulu's revival of Veronica Mars.
Very interesting fact: Eleanor died on her 34th birthday, October 14, 2016 (the year the series began), and Chidi, Jason and Tahani died near the same time. Tahani died in the 2016 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 9. However, Kristen Bell dying young just then is an alternate timeline from our own, because when Michael/Ted Danson saved their lives, and got them back together in Chidi's ethics class at a college in Australia, it caused other crazy things in the next 2 years of history which happened in OUR timeline, like the United Kingdom leaving Europe, The Greatest Showman making 400 million dollars at the box office, and Byron Allen owning The Weather Channel. I am not sure of what that means for The Good Place, but I am grateful that our Earth's timeline - in relation to The Good Place's Earth - is the same one where Michael saved four humans from dying in 2016. I think The Good Place is very revolutionary because it raises and answers many questions about ethical and moral philosophies and the use of free will, it made Canadian actor Manny Jacinto famous in the US and was also the first acting credit for British actress Jameela Jamil, and it would be a great new classic show for VeggieTales to parody (if it made the setup more kid-friendly like King George and the Ducky) like Gilligan's Island and Star Trek before it, to teach kids why they can choose to be good and should do good with selfless motivations.

This and Firefly are the only 1-season non-miniseries that I know to make it to 100,000+ votes. Freaks and Geeks never caught on the same way Firefly or Star Trek did after their original run because - despite being a silly show about the rhyming groups of less-popular kids, with lots of soon-to-be-big stars like Linda Cardellini, James Franco, Busy Phillips or Seth Rogen, it was still a full-hour drama that rarely takes advantage of the comedic possibilities with its title and clashes serious with silly, because Judd Apatow did not agree with NBC's viewers & executives, and since it is not a cool sci-fi series it does not have the same kind of rewatch value as Firefly. Judd Apatow needed to learn that when F&G producers his age look back on their awkward high school times in the early 1980s, they should use laughter to deal with that relatability, rather than make it serious to the point where it is dramatically boring because they do not show much worth remembering, even in the negative sense.

Jane Krakowski and Jon Hamm each had 2 30 Rock episodes in which they wore Blackface makeup. Immediately following the funeral of Rayshard Brooks on June 23, 2020, Tina Fey asked NBC to ban these 4 episodes from syndication, streaming services and DVDs because - while most of them have the right context that portrays Blackface to be wrong, Tina Fey learned that "intent" is not a free pass for white people to use these images, and does not want comedy-loving kids to stumble upon the ugliness of the Blackface tropes.

I am a bit surprised by how many votes this got next to other 2010s CBS comedies, but I am glad that it became very popular. Am I the only one who thought Kat Dennings looked like a vampire? She had very pale skin and teeth, and wore very dark clothes and hair.

I learned that despite having 3 seasons, Star Trek happens over 4 years, 2265 through 2269, so if The Animated Series from 1973 is not canonically the last year of this mission to 2270, then Continues from 2013 certainly is, as it is live-action like The Original Series and replicates the set designs well. I am happy for all 64,000 people who voted on Star Trek by 2017 to finally see the original series get the closure it deserved. I noticed The Animated Series has 22 half-hour episodes while Continues has 11 full-hour episodes. Now The Original Series has 90 episodes! It was very clever how the continued series utilized the 4-decade time discrepancy to bring back Michael Forest's character, having aged 43 extra years after 2 years. In-universe, Apollo has aged 1,000 years in 1 day since the Star Trek crew last saw him. Judy A. Burns was also a writer in Star Trek who came back 49 years later to write a sequel to her original episode in Continues. Also in Continues, Marina Sirtis does the voice of the Star Trek computer that Majel Barrett (Gene Roddenberry's wife) did in The Original Series. It is very fitting as Majel Barrett and Marina Sirtis played mother and daughter, Laxwana and Deanna Troi, in Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Hmmm, if Rod Roddenberry and Christopher Doohan in the 2010s got to continue their fathers' life's work from the 1960s with Todd Haberkorn and Vic Mignogna, just imagine what Star Trek would be like if someone remade Star Trek in the actual 2260s! Eugene Roddenberry X (10th) could make lots of use of the technological advances made in 3 centuries since The Original Series was made. If that ever happened, it would hopefully be much better than Star Trek: Discovery & Picard.
92. Star Trek Continues (2013–2017)
45 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi
The further adventures of the crew of the USS Enterprise.
Stars: Vic Mignogna, Todd Haberkorn, Christopher Doohan, Grant Imahara
Votes: 3,502
Picking up where Star Trek: The Original Series left off 43 years later with new lookalike actors, this high-budget crowd-funded fan project produced 3 vignettes and 11 episodes in 5 years, and filmed scenes as if they were made in 1969. While it has some recurring and guest actors from earlier Star Trek series and movies, the main trio - Kirk, Spock and McCoy, plus Michele Specht who plays Elise McKennah, a new main character, are the only professional actors in the main cast. That being said, for English anime dub actors, Vic Mignogna, Todd Haberkorn and Chuck Huber did an excellent job of dressing, looking and sounding 92% like William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy and DeForest Kelley did 5 decades ago. So did James Doohan's son Christopher, and the new people who played Uhura, Sulu and Chekhov. Vic, Todd and Chuck went the extra 9 miles acting on camera instead of just doing animated voices like they normally do. Gene Roddenberry's son Rod believes Gene would consider this canon, giving Star Trek an 11-episode 4th season for the final year of the 5-year voyage. It's nice that Gene Roddenberry and James Doohan both had a son who got to have a stake in this new Star Trek show. So did Joanne Linville, whose daughter Amy Rydell played her part in the series finale. :)
Vic Mignogna = William Shatner
Todd Haberkorn = Leonard Nimoy
Chuck Huber = DeForest Kelley
Christopher Doohan = James Doohan (his son)
Grant Imahara = George Takei
Kim Stinger = Nichelle Nichols
Wyatt Lenhart = Walter Koenig
Liz Wagner = Majel Barrett
Alena Van Arendonk = Sandra Smith
Darrel Guilbeau = Harry Landers
Kipleigh Brown = Andrea Dromm
Cat Roberts = Elizabeth Rogers
Reuben Langdon = Arell Blanton
Amy Rydell = Joanne Linville (her daughter)
In Star Trek Continues [the 5-year mission of The Original Series], Kipleigh Brown plays Yeoman Smith (Andrea Dromm) and Cat Roberts plays Lieutenant Palmer (Elizabeth Rogers). While those 2 characters each only appeared in 2 episodes of The Original Series, it is nice that Continues gave them a bigger part and had both of them appear in 8 of the 11 Continued episodes. Nyota Uhura and Nurse Christine Chapel were the only prominent female characters before in The Original Series, so it was very nice that two other female crew members became new recurring characters in Continues. Michele Specht's Elise McKennah and Steven Dengler's William C. Drake were new main characters created just for Continues. The Original Series, in its final fan-made season, now has a gender-equal ensemble of 12 people. Also, Reuben Langdon plays Lieutenant Dickerson (Arell Blanton), who was in 1 episode of The Original Series and 5 episodes of Continues.

I know we all love to talk about how Will Forte predicted this Coronavirus at the end of 2019, but it is very important for all 48,000 people who voted on The Last Man on Earth before it was cancelled May 10, 2018 to sign all 8 of these petitions give it the final fifth season like it deserves and not be stuck on that 2018 cliffhanger forever. We are depressed to only hear of how it would have ended. I know that is 1/4 the viewership of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, but I am sure one of the other big three networks will care to pick it back up for another 13 episodes so we can finally have 80. With the 2020 lockdown cutting the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 television seasons 5- episodes short, I know we could all use a new late-pickup season of The Last Man on Earth to show us how to survive together. It's gonna happen in the fall of 2021. You'll see. The Last Man on Earth can't be too hard to film now if we only have 8 people on screen at a time. We may need to get a new Keith L. Williams if we see Jasper again after Special Delivery. 1. https://www.change.org/p/save-the-last-man-on-earth-3cb4be73-62d2-490b-acfd-efa9c56af82b 2. https://www.change.org/p/fox-network-save-last-man-on-earth 3. https://www.change.org/p/fox-broadcasting-company-save-the-last-man-on-earth 4. https://www.change.org/p/fox-broadcasting-company-bring-back-the-last-man-on-earth-for-one-more-season-fox-hulu-nbc-netflix 5. https://www.change.org/p/save-the-last-man-on-earth 6. https://www.change.org/p/fox-broadcasting-company-please-renew-last-man-on-earth-for-season-5 7. https://www.change.org/p/fox-broadcasting-company-bring-back-the-last-man-on-earth-for-one-more-season-fox-hulu-nbc-netflix?recruiter=549507821 8. https://www.change.org/p/netflix-bring-back-the-last-man-on-earth-tv-series
