Jeannie Epper, the peerless, fearless stunt performer who doubled for Lynda Carter on Wonder Woman and swung on a vine across a 350-foot gorge and propelled down an epic mudslide as Kathleen Turner in Romancing the Stone, has died. She was 83.
Epper died Sunday night of natural causes at her home in Simi Valley, her family told The Hollywood Reporter.
Just one member of a dynasty of stunt performers that Steven Spielberg dubbed the “Flying Wallendas of Film” — starting with her father, John Epper, there have been four generations of Eppers in show business since the 1930s — she worked on 150-plus films and TV shows during an astounding 70-year career.

True to his earlier word, Disney CEO Bob Iger is cutting back on all things Marvel, reducing the number of TV series and movies to a mere non-Hulk-sized handful.
The news comes as part of Disney's quarterly earnings call, which Variety covered on Tuesday. Iger told reporters that the company's path forward will focus on quality over quantity, a course correction from the last several years of pumping out stories even tangentially related to the Avengers.
“We’re slowly going to decrease volume and go to probably about two TV series a year instead of what had become four and reduce our film output from maybe four a year to two, or a maximum of three," Iger said.

Academy Award winner Michelle Yeoh has been tapped to lead Prime Video’s upcoming Blade Runner 2049 sequel series, our sister site Variety reports, marking the first piece of casting news about the follow-up since it was first confirmed more than a year ago.
The sci-fi franchise, which began with 1982’s Ridley Scott-directed Blade Runner, is set in a dystopian Los Angeles, where artificial humans (aka “replicants”) are built to work for a major corporation in space. But where there is oppression, there will always be advanced replicants willing to fight their way to freedom.

It’s an unlikely trio, but Cass (Gabrielle Dennis), Hana (Ally Maki), and Nat (Mary Holland) are so much fun in The Big Door Prize Season 2, and no more so than in TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek of the May 8 episode. In “Night Under the Stars,” the three have a night out at the casino and adopt new personas for the occasion—or rather, some of them do, at least. Cass is doing well, but not when it comes to maintaining her persona. Yes, she has a daughter, she says. “Do you have a problem with that?” she asks the casino worker. “Just because Britt parties hearty, honey, doesn’t mean that she can’t have her own baby girls. I mean, I have so many baby girls. In fact, I can’t even keep track. I’ve got a baby girl in every port.” Hana tells her, “I...

No character truly stays gone forever in soap operas, and that might well be the case for the infamous Young and the Restless villain Patty Williams, who fans think could be returning to Genoa City. As reported by Soaps.com, long-time viewers who watched Monday’s (May 6) episode will have heard a reference that hinted at Patty’s potential return. It happened while Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) discussed the recent trauma their daughter Summer (Allison Lanier) had suffered at the hands of Jordan (Colleen Zenk), which reminded them of another shocking incident from their past. The couple referred to a “madwoman’s kiss,” which was a callback to 2009 when Paul Williams’ (Doug Davidson) sister, Patty, purposefully ate peanut butter and then kissed Summer on the lips, sending her into anaphylactic shock. She then convinced people Phyllis was the one responsible in hopes of recapturing Nick’s attention.

Tom Brady may be the greatest of all time, but his roast wasn’t. The thing is, it maybe could have been.
Netflix is all about eventizing these days, and probably the easiest way to do that — outside of sports rights — is live programming. Sunday’s “The Greatest Roast of All Time: Tom Brady,” had plenty of sports and too much live-ness for its own good.
The roast began at 8 p.m. Et/5 p.m. Pt, and proceeded to run, non-stop, for more than three hours. Never have commercials on Netflix been more needed. Or a video editor.
What was the point of doing this live? The danger, sure, but roasts are dangerous by their very nature. Live makes it an even thinner tightrope, we get that, but at what expense? The answer: enjoyment.

Blue Bloods airs its final episodes this year following CBS‘ decision to cancel the long-running police procedural last November. However, the show’s star, Tom Selleck, still hopes the network will “come to their senses” and reverse the decision. In a new interview with CBS News, the Emmy-winning actor was asked if Blue Bloods was truly ending. “Well, that’s a good question. I will continue to think that CBS will come to their senses,” Selleck answered. “We’re the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast,” he continued. “We’re winning the night. All the cast wants to come back. And I can tell you this: we aren’t sliding off down a cliff. We’re doing good shows and still holding our place. So, I don’t know. You tell me!” This echoed comments Selleck made to TV Insider back in January, where he noted, “CBS will find...

Grown-ish is making way for a full-circle guest-starring appearance as Malcolm-Jamal Warner joins Freeform‘s black-ish spinoff in the role of Darnell, father to Diggy Simmons‘ Doug. In an exclusive sneak peek, we’re giving fans their first look at Warner’s character in action as he observes Doug at work. The topic is a touchy one for the two as Doug butts heads with his dad Darnell over his career choice. What makes Warner’s appearance a full-circle moment is his history with the series A Different World, which influenced Grown-ish, a series that is considered a more modern counterpart to the popular series. Now, Warner’s guest-starring role is bringing a direct link between the two by stepping into the Freeform show. Freeform In the clip, above, the scene begins with Aaron (Trevor Jackson) chatting up Doug at the bar, where he says, “I’m good with parents,...

The second season of Jeopardy! Masters continued on Monday night (May 6) and saw self-declared “final boss” James Holzhauer taking a more serious approach to the competition. Masters sees six of Jeopardy!‘s most elite players battling it for a $500,000 grand prize. This year’s line-up includes reigning Masters champion Holzhauer, runners-up Matt Amodio and Mattea Roach, 2024 Tournament of Champions winner Yogesh Raut, Jeopardy! Invitiational Tournament winner Victoria Groce, and producers’ pick, Amy Schneider. Heading into Monday evening, Groce and Raut led the pack with three points each, having both won their first games. Holzhauer and Roach stood at one point each for placing second, while Amodio and Schneider trailed with zero. The first game of the night saw a rematch from last year’s finale, with Holzhauer up against Amodio and Roach. Disney+ is back on a growth trajectory, thank goodness. Even better? Disney+ is darn close to actually making money.
After an October 2023 price hike, the core Disney+ service lost 1.3 million subscribers. Not this time. From January-March 2024, it added 6.3 million subscribers — and its Arpu (average revenue per user) increased by 44 cents. Disney+ now has 117.6 million subs, not counting Disney+ Hotstar. More than half of those are outside of the U.S. and Canada.
In February, Disney predicted Disney+ (again not counting Hotstar) would add between 5.5 and 6 million subs from January to March. Underpromise/overdeliver: always a solid strategy in business.
Disney’s direct-to-consumer (Dtc) business lost just $18 million in the quarter, which for the company is its fiscal second quarter of 2024. Last quarter, the loss was $138 million. Disney CEO Bob Iger has previously said Disney+ will be profitable by the final quarter of the company’s fiscal-year 2024 — so, by September 30, 2024 — a timeline he reiterated on Tuesday.

Whoopi Goldberg‘s newest memoir is on shelves today, May 7, and it’s full of touching stories about her experience being raised as Caryn Elaine Johnson by her stoic single mother Emma alongside her brother and best friend Clyde. The pages of the autobiography — titled Bits and Pieces: My Mother, My Brother, and Me — are filled with anecdotes that are intensely personal and yet read like the stuff of Hollywood legends. The story details how the eventual Oscar winner first found her passion for performance and sweet stories about her mother’s support of her dreams and decisions … and how much of a fangirl she became around certain A-listers that she crossed paths with. Goldberg’s memorialization of herself and her late loved ones is emotional and so very informative. Here are some of the biggest revelations to be found in Bits and Pieces. Maggie Smith was her warm shoulder...

Disney’s entertainment streaming segment, anchored by Disney+, scored its first profitable quarter, helping to partially offset continued weakness in the media conglomerate’s linear TV business for the first three months of 2024.
To be sure, Disney’s overall streaming business was still in the red for the quarter when factoring in ESPN+, which had an operating loss of $65 million. The company reiterated its expectation that its combined streaming operations will achieve profitability in the September 2024 quarter.
Overall, Disney revenue for the quarter ended March 30 was in line with Wall Street expectations, while it beat on adjusted earnings per share.

Back in 2019, on a visit to Los Angeles, celebrated Indian director Sanjay Leela Bhansali stopped in at the offices of Netflix. In his informal five-minute meeting with CEO Ted Sarandos, Bhansali pitched an idea — it would be an opulent tale of warring courtesans set amid India’s struggle for independence. Sarandos greenlit the project on the spot.
Now Bhansali’s Hindi-language series, “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar,” is making its U.S. debut (episodes dropped on May 1). Spanning 1920 through 1947, the lavish story is set in the Heeramandi district of Lahore, British India, the milieu of the tawaifs. As with the geisha of Japan,...

When first we heard that Jon Stewart was switching up his Daily Show schedule this week, we assumed it had something to do with the Netflix Is a Joke festival, where he had a show Friday night.
What we didn’t know at the time was that instead of sitting behind the desk of his own show this Monday night, he’d be visiting two other late-night shows instead.
In order of appearance, the first stop on Stewart’s Monday night comedy tour was episode #2 of Everybody’s in L.A., John Mulaney’s six-episode experiment of a live late-night show for Netflix. The delightfully frenetic show—which includes viewer calls, random tangents from announcer/actor Richard Kind, and plenty of unintended snafus—had Stewart simultaneously confused, amazed, and seemingly terrified.
“I feel like this entire show is a Banksy,” he finally declared. “I feel like, at the end of this,...

We All Get 10 Practice Contempt Charges, Right?
As admirably as Judge Juan Merchan has scoffed at Donald Trump’s legal team and its increasingly ridiculous and sweaty excuses for their client’s flagrant flouting of the gag order against him, the fact that Trump was issued his tenth contempt of court judgement on Monday for attacking the jurors and officers of the court in his criminal trial had late-night hosts looking for new ways to express their incredulity. With the judge putting it in writing that the next violation will quite probably mean jail time for Trump, at least that mental picture seemed to jazz up the hosts, with Jimmy Kimmel looking eagerly forward to the inevitable, noting, “It’s like trying to get a dog to stop licking itself.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the NCIS Season 21 finale “Reef Madness.”] “This is one of my favorite episodes of my entire career span on NCIS. It’s so beautifully done and hits so many emotional levels for many different characters,” says Katrina Law, speaking with us about the twenty-first season finale for NCIS: Case Closed, our weekly aftershow. It was particularly tough for her character, Special Agent Jessica Knight, who got an angry breakup speech from her boyfriend, Chief Medical Examiner Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen) after he heard she was considering taking a new job in California. Watch the video above for the two actors’ breakdown of the episode. “It was a wonderfully human reaction that happens, that’s not planned,” Dietzen says. “Jimmy lost one of his best friends and his mentor this year. Losing his wife, even though it’s been a few years [still affects him]. Him saying, ‘I want something on my own terms’ — ...

The nearest infectious disease center is too far away, so the team in Belgrade sets up their own for Sam. The good news? Both on the awards circuit and in the public consciousness, HBO is widely regarded as among the first Hollywood heavyweights to recognize that television, as a medium, had the power to deliver sprawling, large scale stories on a smaller screen. From HBO’s ascent in the late 1990s through its dragon-aided roar across the 2010s, the network’s original series tackled universal stories, stretching across continents and decades.
The network hasn’t been without controversy, though. HBO faced questions about its lack of diversity in flagship series, including “Game of Thrones” and “Girls,” throughout the 2010s. And, unshackled from the restrictions of broadcast TV, the various steps the network took to push the limit of what’s allowed on screen garnered a fair share of pearl-clutching headlines; see “The Sopranos” in the ’90s and “Euphoria” just a few years back.
