The story of Edna Lewis,89, renowned black chef and cookbook author and soul mate of Scott Peacock, 43, white, Executive Chef of Watershed Restaurant in Atlanta. Edna Lewis was the granddaughter of freed slaves in Virginia. As a teenager, she moved to New York where she became the chef at Cafe Nicholson, a Post-War gathering place for actors, writers, artists and politicians. The original cast from Broadway's Streetcar Named Desire would come after their performance to eat her roast chicken and caramel cake, then walk Miss Lewis home.
Edna Lewis described her life on the farm in Virginia and the seasonal, fresh, local meat and produce her family would grow and gather in several cookbooks including The Taste of Country Cooking.
