Born in China (2019)
Well done film
It is admirable that this film maker tries to show the effect of China's one child policy on so many different mix of folks. Those who enforced it, those who believed in it, and those who eventually made money from it (by "collecting" and "selling" girl babies to the west). For many many years China has difficulties feeding her populace. The government used extreme tactics to push the one child policy. It is not a perfect documentary but in many levels very well done, because of her unique access to many locals who lived through it.
I find that when a documentary is not flattering to some Chinese people they work hard to dump on a film, because they don't want to acknowledge the sad and unpleasant part of their history. To these people I would encourage you to face facts, learn from the truth, and make things better in your own way. This is an honest movie about people who lived through a dark and difficult time. It is great that many Chinese people are doing much better since then. But whether the improvement was from forcing folks to have just 1 child is up for debate.
Princess Margaret: The Rebel Royal (2018)
Sad Pathetic Life
A bunch of royal apologists were interviewed for this documentary. They tried to paint her as a rebel before her time. The actual picture was a spoiled do nothing woman who was lost and confused and a leech to the society that willingly pampered the princess who was confused and entitled. A sad pathetic soul who could not figure out how to live a fulfilling life in the long shadow of her hardworking sister the queen. If I were her children this documentary will depress me to no end.
The Last Czars (2019)
Waste of time
It is mumble jumble and unnecessarily drawn out to make it long and super Boring. Better to watch good documentaries about Nicolas and Alexandra, or the movie made years back. And of course the great Ingrid Bergman in Anastasia. Poorly done, don't waste your time on this crap!
