Sea Fever (2019)
UNIQUE TAKE ON A FAMILIAR IDEA
I was pleasantly surprised by this movie.
The concept may not be very original however, the execution was done well.
It certainly held my attention and moved along at a reasonable pace. The acting was well done.
I think this movie is under rated by most. I enjoyed it.
Maggie (2015)
PLEASANTLY SURPRISED
While I like the big budget, blood and guts zombie genre as much as anybody, I have grown to really love the smaller more emotionally charged offerings from independent filmmakers.
Maggie does not disappoint. Arnold Schwarzenegger is excellent as Maggie's devoted father. You can truly feel his pain at knowing what the future holds. A totally different side of Arnold that I've never seen before. The man can act.
Abigail Brezhnev is also excellent. Complete opposite of her character in Zombieland. There's no humor in this story.
You would be doing yourself a disservice by not giving this movie a shot.
La forêt (2017)
WHAT A SURPRISE
I enjoyed this series immensely. Highly recommend.
There was not a minute during which I was bored or felt that it was dragging. Moved along at quick pace.
The acting was surprisingly more than just well done. It was excellent.
I can't say that the identity of the killer was a shock or that the ending wasn't expected but the twists and turns throughout keeps this series feeling fresh and exciting.
Check it out, you won't be disappointed.
The Sinner: Part VIII (2018)
OUTRANKS SEASON ONE BY A LONGSHOT
Season two of The Sinner was exceptional.
The story was so out of the box and original. I loved it.
The acting was superb. Especially Elisha Henig. This kid is a phenomenal actor. The scene in the motel room alone while Bess was dying was award worthy.
Seeing more of Ambrose's past was interesting also.
The only downfall I found was there were no big surprises. I knew who Julian's father was after the 3rd episode.
I highly recommend this season. Excellent.
The Highwaymen (2019)
NO MORE GLAMORIZING THESE ANIMALS
It was about time the movie industry told the truth about who Bonnie and Clyde were. Actually it was overdue. It was terrible how they have been glamorized over the years. They had no regard for human life and actually enjoyed what they did.
According to most of what I have read regarding these murdering thieves, this movie was basically historically accurate. Although a few of the main players were not really given their due. There is only so much time allotted I suppose.
This was a really great movie. I was glued to the screen. For a movie that is over 2 hours, it actually moved along quickly.
Kostner and Harrelson were superb. Both of them were very sympathetic characters. Maybe Harrelson a bit more.
Seeing how two men who had the same professional experiences were each affected so differently makes this movie worth watching.
The supporting cast was top notch. You only see Bonnie and Clyde for a very few minutes.
The cinematography was beautiful. Watching how law enforcement handled such a huge case in the 1930s was interesting. The politics that were involved are no different than today however.
This is a film that I highly recommend. You will not be disappointed.
Cold in July (2014)
Wow. How did I miss this the first time??
The cast alone should have this movie on everyone's must see list. The acting is superb. One of Sam Shepard's last films. As always, he was great. Michael C. Hall never gives less than a stellar performance. Don Johnson was fantastic. These 3 actors were perfect for their roles.
The film itself is almost a noire. I love that it was set in the 80s. The set designs were right on the money.
It's a fascinating story of an average man with a conscience and corrupt cops who want him to ignore it.
This movie is fast paced and never dull. Do yourself a favor and watch it. You will not be disappointed.
Abducted in Plain Sight (2017)
What the hell did I just watch?!?!
By the time I reached the 30 minute mark, if the topic had not been so serious, I would have sworn that I was watching a hoax film. These parents have got to be the most gullible, stupid, ignorant people on the planet. I'm shocked any of their children were lucky enough to make it to adulthood.
The serial perpetrator is a piece of garbage who got "lucky" enough to stumble upon the perfect mark.
My heart bleeds for the victim. She was let down by every adult in her life.
It's a fascinating watch, if only for the unbelievably naive mother and father. I don't know whether to give the parents credit for embarrassing themselves by telling their story or not.
I'm still sitting here with my jaw hanging open.
