Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023)
A Fresh Take
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves was a pleasant surprise, and the first excellent entry in the D&D genre. The movie is showcasing a wonderfully built world and likable characters. It's a refreshing family-friendly adventure film, which isn't solely based on a comic book franchise. The impressive balance between character development and action, combined with well-executed digital effects, makes for an enjoyable watch. The cast is exceptionally well chosen, with Chris Pine's crafty performance as Edgin, and Michelle Rodriguez's action-packed performance as Holga. Regé-Jean Page and Hugh Grant bring even more excitement to the film, with the latter's character bearing a resemblance to his Paddington 2 role. While there was a lot of classic D&D stuff in there, my wife found it both fun and entertaining!
Kôkaku kidôtai: Stand Alone Complex Solid State Society (2006)
-1 for atrocious subtitles
The Netflix subtitles for this movie are so bad it's impossible to follow the plot. The SAC series English subtitles are also crimes against the English language... so why should one expect better quality for this translation?
Futurama (1999)
Futurama: Welcome to the world of tomorrow!
Futurama is a quirky comedy set in the Year 3000.
The character sheet features Fry, a flash frozen delivery boy who wakes up in the future to befriend Bender, a kill all humans, smoking and boozing tin can. Together they find themselves employed by Fry's only living relative, professor Farnsworth, a senile and prolific inventor, as Planet's Express delivery crew together with Leela, the 1BDI captain, Amy the professor's wealthy Asian intern, Hermes his funky Jamaican bureaucrat and Zoidberg, the crabby company doctor.
Working together to deliver packages sometimes as far as the Moon and sometimes the edge of the known universe, the crew finds the time to romance exotic aliens, visit 25¢ suicide booths, save the world and forge their way into unforgettableness (for 7 seasons so far).
