The Creator (2023)
7/10
Interesting, but less would be more.

This is an above average, intelligent SF-movie with great actors and impressive special effects in the tradition of "Bladerunner" and the "Terminator"-Series. However, I kept wishing the director Gareth Edwards would have used the bombast more sparingly. The continuous onslaught of explosions, battle scenes, and martial technology felt redundant after a while. It almost appeared as if Edwards knows only one dynamic: Fortissimo, Yet, with his first film "Monsters" he has proven that he is very capable of creating a poetic, magical atmosphere and intimate scenes. Which made the horror moments so much more powerful. I wish he would have remembered that.

Also, for my taste, "The Creator" was a CGI-overkill. We live in a time where the production value of a film does not automatically increase with every additional CGI-feature. Audiences long for real footage. I would have attached to the make-believe world much more deeply had it not looked so utterly artificial all the time.

With less focus on spectacle and more focus on story, character, and originality, this might have become a masterpiece. All in all it is an interesting and impressive work, but not as moving as it could have been would the director have remembered his roots.

The Good Fight (2017–2022)
10/10
Absolutely brillliant

I love this series and in my opinion it suprasses its predecessorThe Good Wife by far, because it is so much more courageous, intelligent, and original.

The Good Fight is incredibily bold, funny, and relevant. What a pleasure to watch all of these unique characters brave our crazy times in new and unexpected ways.

Especially the women are a revleation. Forr me, it is such a welcome change so see females, who are too busy rocking the world to be bothered with your standard "women's topics". Christine Baranski is a goddess.

This show has heart, brains, balls, and a lot of humor.

For me a solid 10/10.

Disappointing
5 January 2013
It was always clear that THE HOBBIT, being by far the lesser book, would also make the lesser movie. It simply lacks the depth, the drama, the humanity, the strong characters, and relationships of LOTR. I had already been surprised by the fact that this lovely, but relatively short and rather one-dimensional book was to be made into not one but three movies. However, nothing had prepared me for this disappointment. The storytelling is tedious and the dialog often seems rather forced. The actors are good and do a decent, sometimes even a great job – especially Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, and the ever brilliant Andy Serkis. But most of the time they seem to be in want of a decent script and inspired direction. Furthermore, I thoroughly disliked the look of the film. I had expected the Hobbit to be as visually stunning as the three LOTR-movies, maybe even more so. No such luck. While in the former films, they had managed beautifully to make CGI seem real and believable, now even the real photography looks artificial and rather cheap. The high-definition robs the images of their magic and makes them look – at least in my perception - like low budget student productions that could not afford a decent movie camera. Maybe I am just too old for this video-game look, but I really hope this is not the future of film-photography. Of course the film does have its moments and is not a full let down. A great cast, a great score, some nice ideas. But I am still very much in doubt if I will watch the next two installments.

Der letzte Bulle (2010–2014)
10/10
Just great!

This show proves that - despite much doubt - German television can be entertaining, intelligent, and extremely funny. DER LETZTE BULLE is truly excellent and can easily compare to international productions. It gives you just the right combination of splendid humur, entertaining story lines, and a strong human factor. Authors, directors, and the whole cast and crew really do a wonderful job: The dialog is absolutely outstanding. The characters are deep, unique and hugely likable. Although the basic idea of the series has been somewhat exhausted after two seasons, the interesting development of Mick, Andreas and the others keeps you hooked. The brilliant use of the 80s/90s-Soundtrack also adds to the fun. Great work!
