Rattle-Can (2021)
Keep Making Movies!!!
I am a huge fan to these filmmakers for the fact they put Everyday Folks in front of the Camera, they just tell whatever story and no matter how imperfect it is, they just keep going! This felt like a very personally fueled film about someone struggling with identity and where their future will go! We all deal with these similar issues in one context or another! What type of Story is next??
The Directive (2019)
So Bad It's Good!
Incredible potential for a Cult Classic Following. Especially with the type of reactions the film is receiving.
People saying things like "I'd rather watch this than captain marvel."
The film is an allegory. I read reviews on the Web prior to watching and found comments like "Sadly, if there ever is a worldwide ELE, this is probably how the survivors would act....lol"
Seeing that the Filmmakers have managed to Distribute two Feature Films my immediate thought is they are very aware of the stories they tell. Making a main character modeled off of "this is how survivors would act" means they are bringing awareness to an accurate depiction of our society in this situation. Many of the negative reviewers are probably mad because they would be as successful as the main character in this movie during a Post-Apocalyptic setting. Man in the Mirror makes you uncomfortable? Pun intended? Easter Egg in the Film?
This film is made for under $2K and most people are upset because they couldn't make a good movie and get distributed for 100 times that amount!
Down River (2018)
A Meditation on War
Most reviewers are too hasty in writing off this low budget film as a "student film." The movie's amateurish quality, after all, makes its virtues all the more obvious.
This film is a low budget fictional war drama of Private Avery lost in a hostile world, deprived of material and spiritual foundations, seeking his way to an understanding of himself and life around him. Furthermore the enemy around him is shaped from the same mold he is. it is in the country of the mind that man's real battles are fought.
There is a War in this Film. Not a War that has been fought, or one that will be, but any War. And the enemies who struggle here do not exist, unless we call them into being. This War, then, and all that happens now is outside of history. Only the unchanging shapes of fear - and doubt - and death - are from our world. These soldiers that you see keep our language and our time, but have no other country but the mind.
