Firebrand (2023)
So worth the wait!
I'm obsessed with all things Tudor, and I was excited when I heard that Firebrand was finally in theaters after months of waiting! I noticed that some of the reviews have been kind of mixed, and I was beginning to worry that Firebrand might be a disappointment, after all. The truth is, it's a genuine triumph from start to finish! I don't understand the negative comments at all.
The movie was beautifully shot, and the performances were brilliant throughout. Junia Rees's haunting portrayal of a young Princess Elizabeth really stood out; I look forward to seeing more from this talented young actress in the future!
This movie is based on a historical fiction novel. Like most movies based on historical fiction, there will be parts of the story that may not be 100% factually accurate, but anyone seeking that kind of accuracy should probably stick with documentaries, rather than period dramas.
If you enjoy great movies about royal history, especially those that feature strong female characters and great storytelling, go see Firebrand!
Becoming Elizabeth (2022)
Hoping for another season!!
There are lots of movies and shows about the Tudors, but this is the first one that focuses primarily on the three children of Henry VIII, and their relationships with each other in the immediate aftermath of of their father's death. The whole cast is amazing! The show is very well written, and so beautiful to look at. Really hoping for a second season!
Fleabag (2016)
It's 'pee your pants' funny! :)
After hearing so much about this show I finally decided to give it a try. It more than lived up to the hype--it may just be the funniest show ever! I may be a bit older than the target audience, but I still loved every naughty, sweet and hilarious moment of this show. I only wish Fleabag had a third season!
Run (2020)
It's quite an amazing ride!
Despite some of the negative reviews here, I decided to give 'Run' a try. I was completely hooked after the second episode! The chemistry was very believable between Billy and Ruby, played so wonderfully by Domhnall Gleeson and Merritt Wever. The story was fresh and riveting, and not like anything else I'd seen before. My only disappointment with 'Run' is that it ended in a way that would have made more sense if there was going to be a second season, but sadly I read that there won't be one. I would have loved to see how the story of Billy and Ruby played out further. 'Run' left me wanting more, which in my humble opinion is a clear sign of an awesome show.
