Marriage Story (2019)
What a beautiful drama/comedy
I enjoyed this movie very very very much. The script made laugh and almost cried in every single scene. I'm amazed of the great acting ensemble they had, particularly Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver, who in my opinion is a serious contender to Joaquin Phoenix. Thank thank thank you Noah Baumbach for this masterpiece, Hollywood needs more of this HUMAN stories. I just felt something diferente after seeing this movie .... the true power of cinema!
The Irishman (2019)
Thank your Marty
It's not he best Scorsese film, lets begin with that. Many can argue that 3 and a half hours is an unnecessary length time for this movie, the story could be easily explained in 2 and a half hours. Also I can accept the fact that the CGI looked amazing in some scenes, but disturbing in other ones (I think this technology is incredible and will be improved in the future in benefit of cinema). However, everybody can agree that The Irishman is full of heart. Marty, Al, Bob and Joe left all in there, and we as an audience should be grateful that this guys are still alive and delivering such high level of art. I liked very much the structure of the story, not confusing at all and keeps you hanging until all comes together. I loved the nostalgic ending that Scorsese approach in this one, revealing the human side of Frank Sheeran at his last days, which is something I've never seen on Marty's mob films. And of course I liked the script, cinematography and the beautiful performances. Bob and Joe I hope get nominations, and Al is a secure bet for supporting actor (although Brad Pitt is very good too). All in all, I still think Goodfellas, The Departed and TWOWS are better movies, but The Irishman if for sure in my top five films of this living legend, MARTIN SCORSESE!
Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile (2019)
You better see a Ted Bundy Documentary
This movie created a lot of expectations however I don't think anyone would expect Oscar buff on it. Zac Efron is just ... bad ... I really like his career but when he tries to perform serious and challenging characters he just can't. His performance in some scenes contradicts the tone of the movie, he didn't even try to do the Ted Bundy real accent, he was just performing himself with strange faces. I didn't even feel attracted nor scare by him, which was the kind of reaction the real Ted Bundy took out of people. I was thinking by his 30's, Zac Efron would be able to carry a movie by himself but he is not ready yet, he is still living with the High School Musical shadow. Even the talented Lily Collins wasn't at her best, the same goes to Kaya Scodelario, Jim Parsons and Haley Joel. The director and the writer well ... they made the movie which is something! Sometimes the dialogues were stupid but other times were nice, specially those 20 final minutes were the director really made a great work alongside the script which was very good at that final scene when Zac and Lily confront themselves, because of that I give a 6/10 to this movie and not a 4 or 5. As a conclusion, Ted Bundy story is better to examine it by reading books or watching documentaries, this film will probably win some teen choice awards but hasn't but nothing more ...
La rosa de Guadalupe (2008)
The worst show ever
The worst ideas. The worst actors. The worst scenes. The worst stories. Literally the worst show ever. Although they try to transmit good messages, every episode it's so bad that you want to laugh and vomit at the same time! Again, the worst show ever, period.
Mad Men (2007)
A descent way to get to know the 60's
Mad Men is probably the most accurate representation of that iconic decade called the 60's. The story gets boring and repetitive with the pass of the season (the first 3 were impecable) although Matthew Weiner somehow catch my attention were the finale was very close. Jon Hamm, Christina Hendricks and John Slatery develope their characters in the best way, not to mention we can see the acting evolution of the talented Kiernan Shipka. I would say Mad Men story is not the best thing on tv, however the 60's are really well portrayed with the inclusion of music, historic events, traditions, lifestyles and places that made that part of history so interesting. I recommend it but if somehow you don't make through the final of the show, I wouldn't blame you for it.
Inglourious Basterds (2009)
World War II has never been so exciting!
The Pianist, The Schlinder List or Saving the Private Ryan are one of the best WW2 movies ever made. But for me which one is the number one? Of course Inglorious Basterds. History movies always give us serious messages such as the meaning of life or human cruelty, and usually filmmakers told their stories in a very slow, serious and politically correct way. Honestly I am so done with those kind of films. I mean, we can learn that on school. If I want to see a history movie I don't want to be told the story as if I was reading a book or watching a documentary, films should be interesting, emotional and clever and if to achieve that is necessary to add fiction, welcome that! In that sense, Quentin Tarantino didn't want to make ANOTHER WW2 movie, he didn't want to give us a history class, HE WANTED TO ENTERTAIN US, and I love him for that. However, If I still don't convince you to see Inglorious Basterds here are some facts about the movie that justify spending you time on Tarantino.
1: Has one of the most scary villains of all time, the one and only Hans Landa. He won an Oscar for his role.
2: English is not the only language, the film tries to be accurate with the context, you can find entire scenes with German, French or Italian.
3: Is a combination of history and fiction. So you the story IS NOT TOLD. Tarantino specifically didn't want to be a teacher of the most known history event. Instead, he gave us a finale very VERY satisfying.
4: The dialogues are exquisite as it is usual on Tarantino. However, the contructions of scenes are set with more mistery and tension tone than in Pulp Fiction. We are talking about Nazis and the MOST VIOLENT context in human history here, so obviously Tarantino took advanatage of that.

The Departed (2006)
Modern Scorsese? Best Scorsese!
A flawless movie. Spectacular performances from an esemble conformed by DiCaprio, Sheen, Farmiga, Whalberg, Baldwin, Damon and of course the great Jack Nicholson, who by the way deserved an Oscar nomination for this one, what was the Academy thinking? Anyway, the story is the tipical "Scorsese type" but in this case set in Boston. There is no place to boredom here, you can find plot twist, deaths, chases, monologues, great music and emotional moments that deserve your time. Every each scene has something unique, whether is the great acting, the marvelous music (Rolling Stones or Pink Floyd) or the exquisite dialogue. However, there is one factor that made this movie my favorite of all time, and that is the camera of MARTIN SCORSESE. If you want know why this man is considered among the best directors of all time you need to study this movie. DYNANISM is the word, Scorsese is not telling you again the usual mob story, in this movie he is guiding you through an experience of mystery, fun, excitement, violence, love and betrayel. Scorsese made all the scenes worth watchable in this movie, and if you feel I exaggerating too much, wait until to see the end.
Under the Silver Lake (2018)
It's ok.
Visually good, LA is probably the most important character. Is a Paper Towns but in LA and full of drugs and weird stuff. You are drown by pop culture references, some of them you can relate but other are meaningless. Andrew Garfield is pretty good, Anne Van Patten is remarkable too. It feels like they had all the ingredients to do a great movie, but somehow the director lost his idea on the way. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed but I really had more expectations. By seeing this movie I realize the importance for a director to be a good storyteller, imagine Quentin Tarantino or David Fincher taking UTSL. You can expect blood, fun and entertainment with QT ir mistery and surprise with DF. David Robert Mitchell suffers to tell us the meaning of the story. Maybe for the people who lives in LA is more easy to understand but this is one of the most famous cities in the world, is not very dificult!
