Paint Drying (2016)
Just saw it in IMAX 3D!!!!!
Omg, Paint Drying in IMAX 3D was SO much better than the original theatrical release! I've seen this misunderstood epic five or six times before, but never got the full impact - or fully understood the ending - until now. THANK YOU to the Smithsonian Institution and Louis Vuitton for sponsoring this mind blowing visual feast!
My ONE complaint is that this was merely the ten hour version, and not the fabled Director's Cut with an additional six hours of deleted scenes.
One can only hope genius director Charlie Shackleton receive funding to complete his new work, Grass Growing, very soon. Cheerio!
1917 (2019)
Genius-level film making.
I'm not a huge fan of Mendes OR of war films. But this one knocked it out of the park! Incredibly emotional, visually brilliant, VASTLY better than Saving Private Ryan (the obvious shallow comparison). I had no intention of seeing it until several friends told me it was a masterpiece. I completely agree! If possible, see it in IMAX.
Captain Fantastic (2016)
Saw it 2 yrs ago - still thinking about it
If you're offended by originality, complex thought, and fascinating but flawed characters, then STAY AWAY. However, if you're fed up with formulaic Hollywood junk, do yourself a favor and see this passionate and articulate film. I saw it 2 years ago and keep coming back to it. Can't wait to see it again.
The Mule (2018)
Ugh. Embarassing
'Unforgiven' was Clint at his finest. This was just excruciatingly bad. Juvenile, pointless. Fooey.
