Mr. Corman (2021)
Excellent from start to finish
Very relatable for those under 40, a great display of how anxiety (and depression, autism) can affect someone. It highlights the reality of life in a dark and beautiful way. You may find it hard to watch, we took it one or two episodes at a time, I would recommend every episode. Each has their own unique take, with one focusing on JGL's flatmate for the entirety. No characters are without fault, all have detail and nuance, and something to relate to and feel for.
Not many shows leave me thinking I need to recommend them to everyone, this however is definitely one of them. The rating on IMDB is criminally low and I have no idea why. Watch it.
John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)
Too long, too stupid
How this managed to sneak out of the editor's room at almost three hours in length is beyond me; I'm also confused as to how the script was so bland, with Keanu's repetition of "Yeah" in the same monotone voice and plain expression becoming something of a drinking game legend at this point.
Do you value your time? This movie trashes it completely and does away with respected conventions. In no world does this movie need to exist, but if it does, it needs to be tighter, and with better direction for the cast.
Most of our enjoyment came from Donnie Yen's performance., and each time Ian McShane opened his mouth enough to show us his ridiculous veneers.
Skin Trade (2014)
As expected.. Awful!
I knew the cast and the IMDb score, giving it a little leeway considering there were fewer than two hundred votes. Turns out most of them must be from the studio because this is just trash. Thankfully, we kind of expected that but I couldn't stop myself from nodding off. Thankfully the loud punches (seriously, they're ridiculous) jolted me up. The action starts out tame and improves as the film goes on. However the plot is bobbins and failed to maintain my interest, despite the fact it kinda takes place here (Cambodia) a little too. It's a dumb film with some half decent fights and terrible acting.
DVD release this should be, however, Asian markets will surely make up most of the cinema takings.
Naqaab (2007)
Funny if anything, but not worth spending money on
Having seen this with no idea what it was about, I wasn't sure if it was going to be a complete song-and-dance-fest..or not. But, I stuck through it all. A couple of minutes of no subtitles in some sections, subtitles of spoken English that didn't match the spoken English and spelling mistakes in the subtitles added to the hilarity. It doesn't try to be a comedy, but is completely unbelievable throughout and features a ridiculous storyline that becomes more hilarious towards the end.
If you didn't pay to see the film (I used my unlimited pass, so I can see as many films as I like in a month for one price), then great, it's a passable form of entertainment as long as you don't expect, well, anything at all. Otherwise, unlucky.
