Friday Night Lights (2006)
well written
I think this translated really well from the film to a television series. I like the changes they made, I think they left a good amount of room for story lines to grow and to develop the characters. The cast works really well together they have a lot of chemistry. I like the relationship that the coach's family has with the rest of the cast the coach is not only the coach on the team, but he and his family are mentors for the whole town. I like the new character they introduced as a love interest for Jason Street. I think she could be a really great character. I like that the whole focus of the show is not just football, but it does connect everything. I hope this show gets picked up for another season because I found it very entertaining and well written show.
Arrested Development (2003)
Zany
Arrested Development is a zany show with a likable cast. When I first tuned in, I wasn't sure if I liked the quick shot style and the wacky premise, but after seeing a couple of episodes I really fell in love. The characters are absolutely nuts, and the plots are strange as well. I think all the actors play their parts well. They really work well as an ensemble playing off each other. I love the banana stand, it is so funny. The name George Michel is priceless. I'm not so sure about the cousin incest, but I suppose it's sort of funny. The Magician brother is crazy, his character is so random. I can image how a writing session for this show went. Throw out a random word then just build a plot around it! Maybe is a really funny name too. I like her a lot; she is very spunky which works for her. This show is so absurd, but it works for me as a sitcom. Somehow this nutso family has found a way to work together and build relationships with each other. Even though they are all very weird and the plots are weird their characters are somehow relatable, and I think that is why the show is so great and funny. It's a shame it only lasted as long as it did.
Entourage (2004)
needs more female story lines
I like this show a lot. I think it lets us into a world that although comes off as very superficial is fun and entertaining to watch. I think the acting is really good. I like how each character has really developed their own personality and style. It kind of makes me wish I had a famous friend who took care of me like Vince takes care of his friends. The one problem I have with this show is that the female characters aren't very strong. They seem to be very submissive to the men, and if they are shown in a positive light, it is when they are not causing any problems for the men. Their characters aren't stylized and developed like the male characters are. I would like to see some story lines for the women in the cast, and I would like to see them as more than play things for the guys. Overall this is a good show and I enjoy watching it!
An American Haunting (2005)
Horro not equals horror
*********************Spoiler***************** As a fan of classic horror films, (like Nosferatu etc), I had to go see An American Haunting tonight. I have made my couple of movies and know that I have still a lot to learn. An American Haunting was pretty entertaining and I liked the way Courtney Solomon intertwined the two main themes of the film. An attempt which has not been made in this way before. A psychological treatment of a family life at the beginning of the 19th century haunting us thru time down to today's everyday life, meaning you and I! What happened then still happens today. The haunting is not merrily a ghost, but a statement of who we are as a society. The hauntings have to be seen as a wake up call to reason. Wake up and don't treat me like that, I am your family! Not only interesting but crucial to the health of our society! I think in this respect it is great film and touches the very essence of a problem our society does not yet acknowledge, but sooner or later will have to, cus a kind of haunting like this can happen in real life!! "Beware of who you are" is the main message in this film.
Titanic (1997)
Titanic
If you have ever considered Gone With The Wind to be less than a masterpiece, you'll have to admit that this one is no less either! Titanic is one of the greatest American classics ever made. It tells the story of love and hope. The two lovers both think the world is there for them and classes cannot influence their deep love for eachtother.
Although the movie is long it is never boring. A reason for that are the performances. DiCaprio is very good, charming and sometimes funny, Winslet is outstanding but I have to say that the best thing in this movie is Cameron. To make you care for a character like that is a pretty hard thing to do, but he makes it seem so easy. It is one of the strongest directing I have ever seen.
Besides the story and the acting we have the music, the sets, the costumes, and the cinematography. It is all great. It will be a classic from now on, right up there with GWTW!
