Mary & Tim (1996)
Thought this would make me uncomfortable
This is a fantastic movie. Reading the description, I was afraid it would make me uncomfortable, but it really didn't. It's a very lovely story, the setting is very pretty and I think the actors did a great job.
Rich and Famous (1981)
No wonder...
I can understand why the stars were rumored to have had an affair...Candice Bergen starts out in a closet and the movie ends with Jaqueline Bisset asking her oldest friend to kiss her.
But there is so much in between! It is a great story of long friendship...how there are highs and lows for both and jealousy all around.
The movie has one of the weirdest sex scenes I've ever seen (between Liz and the young stranger). I really didn't care for Candice Bergen's southern accent. The score is a little too sappy for me.
In general, I enjoyed the movie.
Getting Straight (1970)
Interesting movie about university culture in 1970
Harry may have been on side of civil rights and more freedoms for students but he's extremely sexist. Saying multiple times that women shouldn't be allowed to read.
Candice Bergen was very pretty in this role but her acting not so much. Her job was mostly to laugh and cry hysterically.
I would have been more interested in this story from Jan's point of view.
I, Tonya (2017)
We'll never know what really happened...
I wasn't sure how I'd feel abt this movie because I thought the Tonya Harding story had been worn out with "The Price of Gold" (30 for 30) documentary and the many other news magazine programs about "the incident".
However...I loved this movie!! I've heard some people say that Margot Robbie was miscast because she is too pretty for the role but I really disagree. Margot Robbie is gorgeous but that shoudn't mean she's miscast...I think that she did a great job. I don't think it really matters whether or not she's pretty; Tonya Harding wasn't ugly, just a misfit. Margot Robbie really captures how Tonya must have felt about herself with all the abuse she encountered.
Allison Janney is really great in this. I thought it was really well cast. Loved the breaking of the fourth wall and the unreliable narration.
Starting Over (1979)
Candice Bergen is great in this fun movie
I really liked this movie. This is when Candice Bergen really learned how to act. It's interesting that her bad singing in this movie is completely different than Murphy Brown's bad singing. I wish she'd had some more screen time but I liked all the characters, all recognizable actors. I especially loved recognizing Austin Pendleton (the stuttering lawyer from "My Cousin Vinny") as a friend of Phil's.
The Skeleton Twins (2014)
Love the acting
Well...it's about suicide...There are funny parts and really sad parts. The acting is really interesting and good. The story is a little abstract but I did really like it. The lip sync performance is really great.
