The Midnight Sky (2020)
Condescending and dull
Clooney's vanity project that puts you to sleep in 10 minutes. Dialogue is like cheap daytime tv and I really just.. don't care if any of them die. Also kinda irritating being lectured about climate change by a $100 million dollar movie made by a millionaire celebrity.
The Dig (2021)
Good but had more potential
Decent film for a relaxed evening. Had a lot more potential, as it came across uncertain in it's themes. I think it was trying to portray the dichotomy of life and death and how history is part of us (the archaeological finds vs WWII, lovers and families being affected by the war). Really interesting and thought provoking but I wish it went a bit further with it's concept.
Dark Tourist (2018)
Very interesting, don't understand the negative reviews
My fiance and I binged the whole series in a night. I don't get the negative comments. The host is fine and makes some funny comments. Very interesting series that draws you in immediately.
Black Mirror (2011)
Decent, but pretentious
Heard so much praise about Black Mirror that my partner and I decided to give it a go. First episode was a shock to say the least, but not necessarily bad. Admittedly I did feel queasy when the Prime Minister had to have sex with a pig.. Otherwise, it definitely draws you in. Second episode was okay but dragged on and was too paranoid.
The show has has a preachy, prententious tone to it that takes a paranoid view at how technology is affecting society; making people selfish, antisocial robots. Surely tech is bringing advantages to the future, along with it's negatives?
Maybe you're meant to see the show in a more "arty", metaphorical light- but even so the point of the story does drag on pessimisticly.
Overall: if you want something dark and slightly different to the usual, the first two episodes are okay. Otherwise, it'll just leave you feeling depressed and bored.
