E-Demon (2016)
A good watch one time only
Some movies are so well put together that you watch them over and over again. That's not the case for me with this one.
I did actually enjoy it, it definitely had similarities with Unfriended but taking a more demon/witchcraft aspect rather than just an angry ghost with unfinished business...
I just can't imagine myself ever having the urge to watch it again.
If you're bored one evening and stuck for a movie to watch, give this one a go, it's entertaining and deserves a view, even if it's just the once!
Two Pigeons (2017)
Not great.
I wasn't sure what I was expecting but I didn't find the film at all interesting. The main character proved rather unlikeable and the hidden house guest, completely irrational.
The drive for his intrusion felt really weak and I didn't really care about what happened to either of them.
I've never stopped watching a film before because I like to see the whole thing before judgement but I did come very close to giving up on this.
Truth or Dare (2018)
If Final Destination and It Follows had a baby...
If you put aside the sometimes silly 'facetune' appearance the characters take on when asking the question "Truth or dare?" It's actually a decent film.
It's certainly not the best I've seen but it's well paced, has decent acting and an original concept!
The Strangers (2008)
This film is either loved or hated...
Unfortunately I fell into the latter. I am late to the party having never watched it before but wanted to get an idea of what it was about before seeing The Strangers: Prey at Night.
I honestly couldn't get on board with the two, miserable main characters and the pace, intended to build suspense; just built boredom in me. When the killers did make their prescence known it still didn't really amount to much.
The main chunk of the film I watched in 2x speed just to get it over with quickly. Everything seems to happen slowly, solid 10-20 second shots of the sad female character standing at the porch. Another 30 seconds of the downtrodden male character breathing heavily and creeping to the obviously battered car. Maybe the scenes didn't last that long but I just got so bored throughout it felt like forever. Many would have turned off I guess but I wanted to get to the end in case the sequel had any ties.
When it did finally reach its dull climax I almost felt happy for the couple. They apparently lived such sad and somber lives that it felt like they were being put out of their misery. An act of mercy from the killers to both the couple and the audience putting and end to their lives and this film.
The Strangers: Prey at Night (2018)
Controversial but I preferred this to the first movie...
I found the first to be slow moving and dull. I know it was intentional to build suspense but I just couldn't get into it.
This movie had a much quicker pace but fell short by ticking off every slasher cliché.
I did really struggle with the scene where the teens were invited to play cards with their parents instead of being constantly glued to their phones. Cut to the moody teen girl storming off for a cigarette closely followed by her brother under his mothers' orders. Both of them LEAVING THEIR PHONES BEHIND for the killers to destroy and neatly pile up with both parents' phones too! (Apparently when the they decided to look for the kids they also left them behind...)
Then there was the scene towards the end where moody teen girl forgets about the gun she just used to kill the blonde doll masked girl. The male killer literally pulled up in his truck beside her and gave her ample opportunity to reach for the gun and end it.
I understand with slashers that you have to take their poor decisions with a pinch of salt but some are really hard to look beyond.
Despite all of this, I did somewhat enjoy it. I may never watch it again but I don't feel that it was time or money wasted!
Memoirs of a Geisha (2005)
Absolutely beautiful!
After reading the book, I wasn't disappointed with the film. I feel that you could pause any moment of it and it would still look beautiful!
The story keeps you gripped from beginning to end.
