Twenty Feet from Stardom (2013)
Rock n Roll University
My mom always says- I knew the Top 10 before my ABC's. It wasn't until I saw this documentary, that all the pieces fit together. Im not talking rock.. Im talking rock n roll. Where did it go? Why did it go ? You will find out in this movie. Its a revelation that is right there, but never made a big evident splash. This is an absolute MUST SEE movie for any 60-70's rock purists. Not only that, you will hear some of the most incredible "behind the scenes" singing. Someone said of Lisa Fischer-- "She's a freak of nature". Absolutely true. There's one time, she sings and her voice is a trumpet-not "sounds like a trumpet"--it is one. And she has the ability to paint a picture with tone... Simply Beyond Amazing Merry Clayton- Darlene Love -- I have long been a fan of Claudia Lennear and have wondered what happened to her. I bought her PHEW CD,and after she dropped out of existence. You learn where all these people went
Nothing But Trouble (1991)
Cult classic
Nothing But Trouble is one of those movies, such as the original Death Race 2000, that you would never recommend to a friend . Its so bizarre, you're almost tempted, but think they might find you odd,if you did. However, on occasion, when you run into someone who also saw it--its good for a great laugh. "WTH was all that about LOL !" And you and that person are like in a cult following...then go on your own way. I happened upon it when John Candy died. I made it a point to view all of his movies. He plays two characters in this movie. I can say one thing, it was very original, and doubtful anything like it will be made again. View it when you want to see something very bizarre & kind of borderline sickly humor.
Perfect Strangers (2001)
Captured
I haven't stopped to write a review in ages, but I was captured by this entire production. The casting was wonderful. The writing kept my head wondering--nothing was predictable, in advance. The actors were all exactly on the mark. Such a wide range of characters for one family--yet not that different. I got this from Netflix & had to wait a couple days, for disc 2. The second I popped it into the DVD player, I was immediately engrossed again. This was such a clean movie, for a switch. I only remember a couple swear words..one near the end and another towards the beginning. Everyone was dressed like a conservative proper family would be dressed. I don't even recall any cleavage showing. My one downside was, there were 2 brief upper nudity scenes that seemed forced & unnecessary. Upside, there were no sex scenes. Gee, I sound like a prude, but it gets tiresome when every movie fills in sex scenes, car chase scenes & vulgar words in lieu of writing a good script. I really enjoyed this & recommended it to friends. In the end, everything had nice closure except one thing, and I don't think the family will ever have it either.
Tristan + Isolde (2006)
9 out of 10
What an awesome movie.
My biggest regret about this movie, was not seeing it in the theater, on the big screen. I kept thinking this during the whole movie. The scenery & photography of Ireland was spectacular.
Its the story of true love, hampered by loyalties . Their love is so apparent, you forget they're acting. The actors/actresses did such a great job.
There was a wedding in the movie, that was one of the prettiest that I'd ever seen in a movie.
If you like beautifully made movies, you'll like this one
