The Father (2020)
Nothing like it
While there are movies like My Neighbor Totoro which beautifully portray the world from the eyes of a child, The Father portrays the world from the eyes of a senile human in the most emotionally and mentally twisting way possible. Anthony Hopkins' impeccable performance just elevated this flawless masterpiece to next level, behind which a strong message is hidden for every youngster with parents out there.
Don't Look Up (2021)
Excellent way to show humans a mirror
Had it not been the flaws, overexaggeration and things which just don't add up, this film could be the best satirical masterpiece about the devolution of Human species, and an absolutely perfect way of showing how stupid and disgusting we humans have become. Nice performance by both Leonardo and Jennifer, though the former had to play a more complex character's role. This all with jazz music sprinkled here and there, makes this movie a must watch for all generations.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
With Great CGI fireworks comes a SENSELESS story
With great CGI fireworks comes a SENSELESS story and Spiderman No Way home just proved to be yet another greatest " MCU theme parks" of all time, hence justifying Scorsese's thoughts on Superhero Cinema, something which MCU has been doing well since ages. It delivered beyond its fans' expectations by bringing characters from multiple universe ( by using cheap plot threads and lame excuses) and showing interesting interactions among them, which was only a dream for many till now. As action packed and humorous it's scenes were, some moments were emotional enough to make anybody cry. A solid experience for mediocre taste. 8.6/10.
Shershaah (2021)
These patriotic films are getting stale
Don't call me an anti nationalist for this review, but the films of this genre need to step up their game. Not that I didn't like the film, I don't understand the reason of giving this movie a perfect score when it doesn't seem like getting one. I watched the film uri and if you analyse both carefully, the pattern was almost the same - an Indian Army aspirant is shown, his love life is shown, he is depicted as a saint ( as if he never did anything bad in his life). This is followed by a sudden attack from militants ( whose side of story is never shown) and the hero's friends die. Then the hero gets agitated and pledges to kill every last one of them. Then there is sone covert ops where they slay the enemis... End of the story. And not to forget about some random patriotic slogans which fire up the viewer's heart and then he/she goes on to rate the movie 10/10, pff. I like movies like Haider where they show their side of story and tell how they end up being their own worst enemy, how they actually are pathetic, and how some of them are just dragged into this against their will. Shershaah has also shown some of such elements which I appreciate. I respect Indian Army but, doodh ke dhule shudh toh woh bhi nahi hain. Please don't get me wrong for this, the film was great, but a sound mind will get what I am trying to criticise here.
Army of the Dead (2021)
Another Revolutionary delivery by Zack Snyder
Zack Snyder's movies have always been impeccably masterful with flawless direction and have always brought revolution in film industry. His recent masterpiece, Army of the Dead has done a spectacular job in delivering revolutionary Plot holes which have abundant potential of crushing the viewer's sanity. It has completely transformed the overepititive concept of survival in order to escape from a zombie apocalypse, into cashing from the latter, which by the way could have been done by 4 rookies in Hazmat suit after the planned nuking of Las Vegas.
But such shortcuts aren't a cup of tea for our brave and intelligent expendables who anyways fight their way through a heap of brainless creatures, in order to live a good retirement life ( which, ahm...they already were living). Alas, we get to witness such a unique character development and story in ages. Thank you so much Snyder for makingvit possible.
Asuran (2019)
Brutal af
The same old South Indian One man army formula, but with a good background story of the protagonist and brutal action based on the heat for revenge. The story seemed rush, but not even a single scene seemed wasted. The lesson of " Hatred begets hatred " has been presented in a good manner.
Shingeki no Kyojin (2013)
Review Till season 3
Attack on Titans ( Shingeki no Kyoujin) is the epitome of Shounen anime . After a heart winning s1 and a short and miserable s2, s3 revived all the hype and glory of the most mysterious series, with all it's plot reveal and intense battles, and a thought provoking philosophy of life and humanity. It shows the tragic fate of war and human's obsession with it, the feeling of fear and regret a soldier has as he charges towards his own demise, in a way which most of the generic war films fail to do. This all is backed up by glorious soundtrack and great character development. The story had some flaws but the idea of showing the mankind it's true, evil nature is non flawed and unparalleled. 9.3/10
Tenet (2020)
Best after Dark Knight trilogy.
First the character- Nolan's movies never ever focussed on it ( except dark knight trilogy) or his movies would have been 5 hrs long so please shut up. The story/plot- not new but was very hard to execute and Nolan did it better than anyone could have imagined, if you think it is not well done, you are very welcome to try it. The soundtrack- now this is where the problem was, it seemed as if the mixing had been done in a hurry ( especially in the intro) since the music overshadowed the dialogues ( subtitles saved me lol), but still it is unique and great like it has always been. Cinematography- top notch, don't even argue. Acting/actors - not bad but could have been better. Verdict - it takes a lot of head to create such piece, too bad it will be bashed by " Complexity loving audience " for being " Too complicated", lmao.
Shinseiki Evangelion (1995)
An incomplete masterpiece ( almost)
A series which goes from a basic Mecha battle anime , to a sci fi thriller, to ethics and psychology. The fights are intense and tactical, making viewers wonder how this could be pulled off in 1990s. The animation, the soundtrack and the ending theme is beyond excellent. It leaves impact on viewers' minds with some lovable characters. Now about the story - it is very deep, dark, depressing and most important of all, it is INCOMPLETE. There is a movie which has to be viewed after it which has some more explanation, but that's not enough.
Orange (2016)
A must watch for every youngster
In this modern world where depression and suicides have become more common, this short series can be a perfect rescue for the ones undergoing hard times. It teaches the true meaning of friendship and love, something which this generation has to learn. Despite of it's flaws and a bit too streched story, " Orange " is a heartwarming short series and acts as a great mood uplifter, with a soothing soundtrack, which makes it an unforgettable experience. If we all were like the 5 friends Kakeru got, I am pretty sure there will be no more suicide in this world.
