War of the Worlds (2019)
There are plenty of genres where you can exploit character development.
First: Reviews calling others "haters" just for giving honest opinion are a cancer. People has no reason to "hate" the producers, actors or people or the serie itsefl, maybe fanboys should think again when they call others "haters" just because they don´t share opinions. Everyone is always looking for good shows and SCI-FI fans has their expectations as "drama" lovers had their owns.
Now going back on the topic, SCI-FI is a genre where people can tolerate a certain amount of "character development" and "drama" enough to make the main characters likeable. The 2005 movie is not an Oscar candidate to best movie but it is decent enough to get action, the "laser" stuff, the alien machines and the drama in rational portions of time to please everyone.
But this series doesnt, is all about drama and the few action is between humans which for some reason are killing each other despite there are plenty of resources now than more of the half population just evaporated.
And the "character development" only applies if you actually care about the characters, but this does not happen, in the end you´ll end not caring that much about mains, let alone supporting ones.
Now to give an example to these "character development" reviewers, lets say I am the producer/director of The Crown and I decide to put zombies to fight Lady Di while she counter attack them with martial arts?. You see there are some expectations that every director has to fill, and War of the Worlds does not fill the SCI-FI expectations here...
Lovecraft Country (2020)
Started very well until...
I really like the series, at least the horror/mystery part is really cool, but just after 3-4 chapters the series are getting "too HBO", with meaningless sex scenes, plots that deviate from the trama just to please their liberal viewer base, (even to the point to justify racial violence against white people, because you know, "these white people is bad, they deserve it") and "too deep" character development which takes important time from the suspense/terror main plot.
I know topics like racism are very important these days, to not repeat the same mistakes of the past, but sometimes one just wants to turn the TV and watch some good suspense show and forget for one hour how screwed the world is right now.
The Orville: Mad Idolatry (2017)
What a simplistic and idiotic way of seeing religion...
You know Macfarlane and his position about religion and faith. This episode was pretty much expected to come anyway since is the creator and a writer of the series.
Still you can expect that someone that is so critic about the role of religion on culture and society will be more informed about what he is criticizing.
The whole idea that one of the crew members will be become some sort of "God" in a society after 5 minutes of "intervene" or "interact" with someone of that society is totally idiotic. Maybe because the episode is short-timed, the way the series wants to present how religion can be "so bad" for human kind development is so simplistic that actually gives any fundamentalist a good tool to criticize liberals, showing the poor knowledge about how religion has been developing in the world in the last 3500 years.
This episode just does the opposite of what it wants to achieve and actually it serves for the purposes of those who wants to control the faith of people for their own obscure interests.
The last part of the episode is not better but worst, if you think Earth is cool as it was before the humans changed the shape of the Earth landscapes, you will not like what you'll see.
Once again because of their own arrogance liberals like MacFarlane are the worst enemies of science and knowledge, showing how poor is their comprehension of history.
Anyway this episode closed a poor season with a lot of pseudo-science stuff that actually would make any scientist to laugh.
I heard the second season is better, I hope so.
Do not forget to downlike this!! I know most watchers of this show are liberals and they are not so open to criticism and they pretend to be. They are fundamentalist but in the other side of the ideological spectrum.
