Last Night in Soho (2021)
Don't know what to rate
I don't know weather to give it a lower rating because it triggered me so much, or a higher rating for triggering me since Edgar obviously did a fantastic job of getting deep into my emotions and thoughts. The costume design was brilliant, the cinematography and SFX were also wonderful and the acting and writing were also on point. If it didn't shake me to my core with anxiety, I would have loved it - highly appreciate is the best I can do though. Excellent work.
First Date (2021)
5.5 - so "bad" it's good
It's definitely funny, and the combination of inept characters is spectacularly entertaining. Sometimes felt a bit overkill or some scenes felt a little random but it was an endearing kind of bad that made it enjoyable and funny. The beginning with Mike was rather slow,I can't say I didn't "wtf" a bunch of times or enjoy every second, but I really appreciate that it keeps the audience on their toes for the most part and it does comedic scenes well. And hey - it made it to Sundance which is a fantastic feat within itself so I don't say anything negative to rain on that parade. It's definitely worth a watch and will (of course) be some peoples cup of tea more than others, but you'll be hard pressed to get through the entire film without laughing :)
Around the Sun (2019)
Interesting and somewhat whimsical
This film was very well shot, charming, and I really liked the call backs with imagery and dialogue. However, I did find the pacing a little slow and confusing. Maggie's very opinionated moments, while I didn't dislike them, didn't always seem to have much motive behind them. I like when a film doesn't reveal its idea right away, and by the end it ties up most of the strings so while I appreciate that, the way in which it was done left me still a little hazy - I personally felt it could have done with just a smidgen more detail in of motive and background story. But I could also see why they did it the way they chose. Feel like it's something that needs to be watched again and mulled over (which is not a bad thing by any means). I think the trailer set me up to believe it would be faster paced and more confusing. I'd still recommend watching, just be in the mood for it!
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010)
Best comedic cinematography
I really enjoyed. the smart, comedic cinematography. Edgar Wright is one of my favorites in how he chooses to work a scene in a way that fully utilizes the comedy. The random "magic" that I just have to accept and general quirkinesses isn't my cup of tea, but it made me laugh and like I stated before enjoyed the shots. I think the narrative itself depends on taste but overall enjoyable and well executed movie.
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (2018)
A beautiful opportunity wasted
This film had beautiful places to use, amazing actors, a good sound track and Juliet and Dawseys chemistry on film was great. they had and a story that was already written for them, and they completely botched most of the characters - Amelia was not that way, Juliet was more cautious and Reynolds was more of a jerk. Jane was Ebens daughter. I can't believe how much they got wrong. The characters were not welcoming. She didn't have to just arrive unannounced, And none of it seemed to be reasonably wrong for adaptation purposes. She didn't have to go back to London either - I wasn't expecting it to follow the story to a T - obviously a screenplay must be abridged but this is so frightfully unlike the story it does such an injustice and changes not only the events but more importantly the concepts of the characters and essence of the story. Considering how much I loved the actors previous works and what not this is very disappointing that the screenwriter and director And producers wouldn't attempt to handle a beautiful story with more care. They had such a good opportunity to make a good film. It's just sort of a hack job and I'd be upset with myself to destroy the very essence of the story if I were the adapter of it. This could easily have been done better
Downton Abbey (2019)

They satisfied missing the show with all of the flair, characters, witty remarks, shock, etc. Great story, amazing cinematography.
