Leave the World Behind (2023)

The movie is fun to watch.. at first. It becomes more and more apparent, that the mysteries you think will become clear, are actually just strange plot holes. Some examples:
- A supposedly knowledgeable guy says that the high pitch sound attacks could be sonic booms. That cannot even be remotely possible. Eventually they turn out to be some microwave soundwave attack, which still sounds really strange to me.
- The son's teeth fall out because of the sound wave attacks, and after hearing that medicine don't work, the father and owner risk their lives to get some antibiotics.
- Meanwhile, the little daughter follows some random animals, and somehow manages to find a shelter. This is not explained at all, and it's not clear at all why random animals would walk around and show her to a random shelter. It's not clear at all what the connection is between the weird animal behavior and the 3 step plan to destroy a country.
I get that movies are sometimes all about showing impossible things. But, movies like this are intended to be believable and serious, which is hard to achieve with the level of stupidity in terms of things that just are a stretch to even believe could happen. Think of:
- the disappearing notifications
- (all white?!) tesla's piling up because they somehow are hacked and are self driving
- The insane amount of flyers that are dropped by a single plane on a seemingly random remote road.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
Nice storyline, terrible visual effects and scenary
When we think of the Matrix, we think of the blue and red pill, bullet time, 'the one' and kung fu. Remaking such a movie is hard because much mysteriousness is lost in the first movie. What can you even add to a perfect movie?
In Resurrections we see the old concepts again, with many references to the original movie which shows that they knew to respect the original movie. We also see some emphasize on interesting philosophies like 'the blue and red pill don't matter, it's the choice we make', choosing to be 'the one' and that 'we are happy when we are controlled'.
Also I have to say that some themes like 'binary' are just awesome and really well endorsed in the story. They clearly show a suggested theme of the original Matrix movie.
Unfortunately they jump in between cuts in fight scenes too much, especially in the train scene and opening scene. The stunts are mostly simple wireworks. The visual effects are simple distortions. The only awesome visual effects are from the 'bullet time' scene (again) and maybe from the sentients walking around in the human city. I think much of the scenes would be much better with classic dramatic rain, slow buildups, different lighting and a more clear objective. Every scene I was wondering how they get out the matrix so easily, and if they couldn't just be followed. And *can't they just leave any fight scene with a handheld miror?!* These things made the objective of them fighting very unclear to me.
Legends of Tomorrow: Deus Ex Latrina (2021)
Outstanding Episode
In this episode everything that we've seen in previous episodes comes together. It's also simply hilarious and just educational. As a bonus I think that the characters are developing exceptionally well in especially this episode.
I rate this 10/10!
Hacksaw Ridge (2016)
Not Very Realistic, But a Great Inspirational Movie
The movie doesn't depict how the battle went as realistic as other movies that focus on realism and historical accuracy. Personally I don't think this is a problem because the story is more about how Desmond Doss got his medal of honor. It's actually very moving and inspirational to see, even with the weird, unrealistic, explosions and war tactics.
This movie is easily one of my favorites. Keep in mind that it's a movie, and that not everything has to be perfectly realistic. Sometimes to crowd needs some nice gasoline explosions to be able to empathize.
Tenet (2020)
Inception^2
I'd like to focus on the main criticism of this movie: the complexity.
With movies like this you shouldn't be afraid to not understand something at first, because it'll all become more clear later on. That's also why, for example, the music intentionally gets reletively loud sometimes - it's to show that it's not important to follow everything that's being said at some segment. Nolan uses tricks like these all the time throughout the movie, but you do need to be able to use them to your advantage to enjoy the movie.
Sometimes you'd forget that we live in a three-dimensional world, and that it's just not our nature to comprehence the 4th time dimension. This movie does a fenominal job at visualizing this dimension, just like inception did at explaining dreams in dreams in dreams..., also known as inception.
I only watched the movie once, and will again. That's the power of this movie.
Black Mirror: Bandersnatch (2018)
The first to rewards curiosity
Black mirror is known for its well composed films, and this one isn't an exception.
What I liked most about the film, is that as a watcher you get to know more and more about the 'truth' by picking options. This is also the intention of the makers I think. You don't have to restart the entire film to see what happens when you pick some other choice.
Another thing I would like to point out is that unlike other interactive movies around, you as a watcher get involved in the storie. I got grabbed more and more into the story as it progressed.
So all in all, I think the film rewards curiosity because you can pick how the story progresses and the way the film grabs you if you do get curious. I don't think it gets boring at any point to rewatch part of the film because it goes hand in hand with the plot.
Left Behind (2014)
It's hard to put your finger on this one..
The title and description of this movie are awesome. It's a great concept because this concept could reach alot of people: believers, science fiction lovers, thriller lovers, fantacy lovers, etc.. Unfortunately the movie clearly didn't turn out so well because it won't spark any interest of any group that's interested in the concept.
One big reason for this was that the script is written poorly because there's a lack of thought that went into it. Think of these "millions" of people that dissapeared while this'd only be around 1/2000 people on earth?! Maybe it's just me, but the street was full of the weirdly foulded clothing of vanished people. Another example would be the poor terms used to just save some time in writing the script such as the plane that could not climb because of some defect that doesn't even exist?! Oh yeah, almost forgot, a plane's collision mid-air and face-to-face would probably end differently realisticly speaking.. Oh nevermind, the explanation of that is even covered in the script: "oh we were lucky".
Not only was there a lack of thought that went into the script, they just forgot to add the developing feature of the characters. Think of any character. I don't recall any character changing in a significant way. Maybe you could call the apology of the captain to his daughter and wife a development, but I'd say he just learned from a mistake he'd make again.
Ok it's clear that the script was written poorly and that they just forgot to add a bunch of stuff, lets talk about the actors. They look like me trying to pretend that I like a present I got that I really don't like. Ofcourse in the movie this effect is reversed: most actors are trying to look sad while they realize that the movie is turning out as a complete miscarriage.
Oh just as a sidenote: the lighting, filming and graphics are just trash. I could do the lighting better personally with my samsung device that has no flashlight app on it installed. I could do the filming better without a camera. I could do the graphics better by drawing them by hand. An example of this horrible filming is probably that, at one point, you can physically see that a drone is struggeling to film straight with the wind blowing it away.
However, the movie was still enjoyable for me. The main reason for this was the pretty actors ;) and the expectation that something special was going to happen like a sudden plottwist.
To sum it all up I'd simply say that the movie wasn't terrible because enough money was put into it, but it was bad. This is a movie where I feel like there's a part missing. A part that I can't put my finger on. A part that got lost because the people responsible for making the film got lazy. If you want to watch this movie, please don't even think of good movies like the Matrix or Forrest Gump to compare it with for your own safety.
