Missing 411 (2016)
Very Mixed feelings about these what IF movies
These films are at the out set quite intriguing simply by the seemingly very large numbers of persons disappeared in wilderness areas. However the cherry picking of cases and often just not stating the most probable causes of disappearances panders to uncritical minds. For example the man who was said to shed his pants folded as if he melted. But, that disregards hypothermal and dehydration do cause people to become delirious and shed clothing in frigid conditions. Numerous cases from Artic deaths show this. There also was a man who as a child managed to walk 20 plus miles and was lucky to find help. He said he experienced nothing supernatural. So we know small children can do things we might not expect. That would include walking away from adults. But frankly these cases do not explore the mundane or criminal sides of the vanishings. But, its worth while to speculate, but I am sure by now this has made its promoters very wealthy.
Enlighten Us (2016)
This man as others before him is a cult leader
You may call it whatever you like, but people who follow such cultist are to me just dumb. They are often exceptionally greedy as Ray is and as others have mentioned he is a positive narcissistic sociopath. Indeed, such risks with the lives of his hapless charges. I am often thinking these folks are well dressed, can pay Ray thousands of dollars to watch his act. That's a steep price to visit Oz, where there is a Wizard and the streets are paved with gold.
He now is certainly a sociopath because he shows really no remorse or accepts responsibility for what he did. Indeed I consider Oprah a cult leader as well. The fragile and the greedy always think an easy way to wealth, love and success. But in the end, it really happens the old fashioned way, you have to earn it.
God's Own Country (2017)
I liked this film on so many levels
First I loved the basic and down to earth people it depicts, these are a twenty something son (gay) and his stroke afflicted father and aging mother. These people are just so plain spoken and not over acted.
The film even shows an initial prejudice toward their young Romanian farm hand, that with time seems to flame, smolder and then calm to a quiet acceptance.
The love affair seems in the beginning to be a trial and error affair where each man is unsure what his worth is to the other. Indeed, the climax begins when the farm hand leaves, father has yet another stroke and the son John Saxby, realizes he is in love. This I can tell you for gay men is hardly a trivial judgement. Much gay sex is simply recreational and non loving on an emotional level.
I felt the film ended too soon, because great depth could have come here.
However recalling the denial and tragic ending of Broke Back, I honestly hoped these people could grow in love for each other at least for a while.
Excellent film.
American Circumcision (2017)
The Circumcision crime Hides behind social hot butons
I have seen the previews of this documentary and hope it will eventually work its way to NETFLIX. I see old Schoen a Jewish doctor smiling and making his now outrageous grasps at why this butchery can be medically justified. Thank God he is now DEAD. And the outrageous non doctor pretending to be one, Brian Morris.
This man's looks give me the creeps and he has been a long time circumcision fetish enthusiast , even having phoney names and associated with Vernon Quintenance, a British postal worker arrested for sexual assault two years ago upon young boys.
So here is the line up for those who would exaggerate medical claims and even write books about why to circumcise.
Marilyn Milos I have met personally and she is one of the most compassionate women I have ever known.
