Welcome Home (2018)
The horror in realism.
To be fair, this movie was dissapointing.
I don't know if it was because the trailer made it look like more of a watchworth movie or because it just wasn't that good. Yes you could spend time watching it but not that it is going to win any awards.
So the characters are bland, right from the start you know that Frederico is bad news but not in the way the trailer makes it look.
You were expecting some type of stalker, pervert, drama about romance.
They deliver on the drame in the romance but in the wrong way, not in the Frederico is having an affaire with Ratajkowski her character but in the oh she already cheated in the past type of things which only is used to get the slow plot move forward.
Then again that part has nothing to do with the actual plot.
In my opinion they already show the stalky part way too early in the movie.
If they would've wanted to make it better that part of the story would've been alot better when used as a slow burn.
Ratajkowski and Paul lack the feeling of an actual couple so there is no actual attachement to these characters. They just come off as bland.
A stupid girl and a bland non-trusting boyfriend.
Then the strong point in my opinion is the movie's ending.
To be fair we have to accept that this actually happens in the world, some houses are bugged and probably livestreamed to show off some steamy action.
Appart from that the movie was bland and nothing special. Too slow and just had us waiting for something to happen and when it did it was practially nothing
The Death of Stalin (2017)
The Red Doctor Strangelove
To start off this is one of the best movies i've seen in a while.
It's a fresh breath when it comes down to movies about history and Russia as a whole. Not that there are this many movies about Jozef Stalin or the Red army and their period in history.
It instantly showed us the fear people had for and the power Stalin had.
Some visual gags like men falling off the stairs in the background etc. actually made me giggle a bit, slapstick has been dead for a while yet in this amount it worked.
The movie gave ma Doctor Strangelove feeling when it came down to the comedy and laughing about a serious topic.
As a movie fanatic I could never have imagined a movie about Stalin his (surprising) natural death to be this funny.
It's not a stupid Adam Sandler esc. comedy but a well written smart dark-comedy.
The costumes and acting performances delivered by the respected actors are phenomenal. I think that the best thing is that for the first time in my memory Steve Buscemi doesn't die in this movie.
It's funny how overacting can sometimes work in this movie, it's well established how Stalin his "Friends" are scared of him and this gets them in some hilarious shenanigans for the first half of the movie.
As for the writing it's great, some clever banter as they struggle to get his body out of the room.
This tone continues for the rest of the movie.
Now to conclude this to be classic : acting : Great, Costumes and sets : Amazing, Cinematography : Good , Directing : For a relativly unknown director a masterpiece, Writing : As said before without a doubt the best thing about the movie.
Terminal (2018)
A love letter to film noir.
Alright, I know what you may think, it looks horrible but that's only at first sight.
The reason i watched this is because I enjoy the actors.
I'm a fan of both Pegg and Robbie, I also like Myers but not as in I would watch all of his movies.
Let's break the movie down, before we can do that we need to start with the trailer.
Trailer : It instantly gives you a crime, noir vibe. Doesn't spoil much.It makes you want to watch the movie because of the mystery.
As for the movie...
Movie : Alright you can see it's the director's first major movie, we have to admire the fact that he got to handle a good cast. In a movie you have a short period of time at the very beginning to establish the characters and the story.
This movie fails miserably at this but don't give up just yet.
It's made to take away your breath.
As a fan of the style they made sin city in i was sold by the visuals.
The visuals are neon, it's a neo noir crime drama filled with mystery.
Lots of parts in the movie make you wonder why did they put this in? Where is the story and who is that? But that's okay. The visuals and acting make up for it.
For 3/4 of the movie you'll have a hard time catching up and sometimes hate the movie but the ending with 3 twists is worth it.
Now let's talk about the characters and i'll be including spoilers for this.
Margot Robbie is wonderful as always she perfectly plays the femme fatale role in this movie and is the main characters.
Simon Pegg is not that necesarry but he's a good way to establish what made Margot Robbie her characters the way they are.
We have Mike Myers playing a trian conductor who is annoying but the moment he takes off his "face" in the end you'll learn that he was the one pulling the strings , the so called master mind until he gets outsmarted by the twins Robbie plays.
We also have two stuck up assassins that are stuck in a cat and mouse game without realizing it.
Two guys trying to be muggers but failing at it, bringing some comic relief between all the gritty neon and mystery.
The music is subtle but if you would take it away the movie wouldn't work.
It's a great movie when it comes down to characters or just an arc.
I wouldn't recommend it to people but it sure is worth a watch if you can sit through it.
Sometimes you'll think that it are boring characters but they have depth, every part of their life is carefully made.
It's a typical film noir with great visuals and interesting characters.
The Last Airbender (2010)
The movie that crushed my childhood.
I grew up watching the cartoon, Avatar : The last airbender shaped my childhood.
I think it's safe to say or at least in my opinion it's one of the best stories you can have to adapt into a movie.
Back in 2010 when i was only starting to be fascinated by movies and didn't know that much about what makes a movie good, to proof this, in my opinon Transformers(2007) was a good movie...Yeah.
But somehow i managed to realize right from the start that this movie was about to destroy my childhood memories.
They took the characters and destroyed them, fire benders all of the sudden needed fire to bend it and not make it out of nothing like we were used to.
There are many ways to explain things but let's take a look at how to do it and how not to do it.
Not : The movie, Katara explains everything. You can pull this off but not by just letting her stand up and explain things, this continues throughout the entire movie.
Yes : Show people the things you need to explain or let Bumi do it in his funny way.
Characters :
Bumi : Why did you leave Bumi out?
Sokka : So is he reckless or not? Wasn't he supposed to be Comic Relief?
Aang : No words...
Katara : Wasn't she supposed to be like a caring character instead of just being there explaining things and swapping being reckless with Sokka?
Zuko : Good try by casting Slumbdog Millionair but didn't work, they even gave him hair?
Iroh : Isn't wise like he's supposed to be.
Acting :
Just horrible.
Typical Cartoon things :
Missing in Action : Agni kai? Cool things? Good Story?
All we can ask now is :
Really Shyamalan? Why?
