Greatest Days (2023)
One for a Sunday afternoon light viewing
The actors were great. Unfortunately the story was lacking although watchable enough.
My main take away from this was an annoyance with the script writers for making the Jayde Adams character storyline about her change in body shape. The 'Well she's in here somewhere' line and the reference to her outfit being 'expensive alterations' (presumably because of her size) from her so called best friend felt insincere as well as cheap and generic/lazy devices. It's 2023 writers. Do better.
Body diversity in representation is better but why does these character storyline still have to refer to their body shape?
Colin from Accounts (2022)
Excellent comedy - great writing and characters
Really really enjoying watching this show on bbc 2/iplayer at the moment. Already binged to episode 7 over just 2 days!
Laugh out loud moments and cleaver writing. Love the barman especially. Lovely female characters. Funny funny funny!!!!
It's mostly really thoughtfully represented and written too... with one exception - the predictable lapse in to far talk from characters. Come on writers you don't need this now. I don't need to see an actress gripping her stomach and saying she's fat And mention of 'fat dads' with disgust as a punchline. Ignore this lazy writing and you've got a very beautiful thing in this production!!!
Cheaters (2022)
Susan Wokoma - brilliant!
Loved this series so much I binged it in 2 days and then started all over again. The writing is great and the characters so believable. Casting was perfect. I liked the 10 minute length and this seemed to contribute to each part of the story being tightly crafted.
Fantastic added value for me was the representation of sexy characters using actors of variety of body shapes. It was like breath of fresh air when the minor characters at Josh's work are given a sexy role within the narrative. I am not sure where I have seen this before with no other agenda attached and it resonated strongly with me. This progress and thoughtfulness is so good to see. More of this please!
