Million Dollar House Hunters (2018)
Potato sound mixing
Absolutely horrid sound engineering, at least in the first season. The houses may be a million$, but the shows budget must have been about $20 per episode. The music is always way louder than the talking, and people are not miced equally from scene to scene. It is distracting, and I am not a sound guy.
Premise is fine, but way too many episodes in LA and surrounding areas. The show truly feels lazy.
They also show way less of the houses it seems than OG house hunters, usually only showing like 3 rooms per and instead spending way too much time on unnecessary host/client conversations. There is also both a host and separate real estate agents, which is unnecessary as it adds nothing to the pacing.
If I catch an episode later than season 1, I'll change my review accordingly but as of now it is a solid 2/10.
Black Adam (2022)
A nice surprise with plenty to keep you entertained
Black Adam is really fun and has the same sort of hopeful feel as the Wonder Woman movies or Shazam. Very different movie, but not dark and brooding like the Snyderverse or like the Pattinson Batman. It was a bit campy at times, but I feel like it embraced that rather than shy away. The focus on the movie doesn't revolve too much around the Rock, which was nice too considering it could have easily been another self-serving Rock centric vehicle. Black Adam was given time to become interesting as a character, and most of the side characters were given at least a few scenes to develop. The Justice society characters introduced were all fun and I hope to see more of them. The movie didn't waste too much time explaining who any of them were, which was also nice as it kept the pacing of the movie from dragging when the focus shifted away from the Rock. There was some bad acting from a kid who plays a pretty important role, so that was a bit distracting at times, but since it wasn't exactly high drama, I wasn't too bothered. There are a few confusing/conflicting political undertones, but those in question are less self serving than most comic book movies would have and i appreciate the effort. Overall I would give it a solid 4/5. Very enjoyable as a campy comic book movie, but not without any issues. I'm sure it will end up making a fair amount of box office, and a sequel would be well deserved.
