Dark Matter (2024)
They should have casted Jerry O'Connell
It's very close to the book (so far, I only watched the first 3 episodes), excited to see where they take it. Well acted but still feels absolutely like 'Sliders'. It's pretty much the same concept, always wondered how the writer got away with this - however you cannot reinvent everything. The quality obviously is what you would expect from an apple TV show, they should have opted for an all-episode-release, as I cannot imagine people commit to stay tuned for several weeks anymore, hopefully I am wrong. It's definitely worth to give it a go if you like Sci-Fi & the idea of the multiverse. Don't get lost!
Boy Kills World (2023)
epic - full-filled my expectations
You kinda get this movie when you combine John Vick & The Raid. It's absolutely impressing how they managed to put heart & passion into this movie, with all the violence and gore. You really feel for this guy. There is not one actor who's not delivering & it's so much fun to watch. I promise that you won't get bored. Choosing a video game (kinda street fighter) style pace, absolutely hit my nerve (in a positive way), opting for the Archer voice actor was an epic decision! They even hired the Stranger Things russian. I also hope Bruce Campbell is watching cause we just found your new Ash, search NO more! So far, my 2024-movie-highlight!
The Exorcist: Believer (2023)
Absolutely NOT
Ignores everything that made the original so unique and terrifying. Was'n needed either in my opinion. Makes 'The pope's exorcist' a true treasure that at the same time sets the baseline for movies dealing with a similar topic.
Very predictable. During the final/showdown (if you can call it that), I wasn't even sure if the demon is still in charge/or present at all.
Additionally 'dad' stole the show & it was difficult to focus on the girls, often other people were talking but the camera wasn't able to follow supporting characters.
It wasn't scary or frightening at all.
Finally, money makes it possible to lure even the ex-main protagonists in, maybe that explains the ridiculous budget.
Not for me at all, straight to DVD or stream would have been a better choice (however it doesn't make the movie more watchable).
Be careful what you wake from the past - especially if it's a masterpiece.
Talk to Me (2022)
ok
'Talk to me' is a teeny horror movie from Australia led by young actors. The main plot deals with a group of teenagers that get hold off a mysterious hand, which, when touched, let's you speak with someone from the other side. The story is pretty straightforward. I was quite surprised by two brutal scenes that I didn't see coming, probably the answer to the age limit. The last 45 minutes are action packed, which wasn't necessary. I think the movie has definitely potential, but it gave away some great opportunities. The youngest kid is definitely the show off of the whole movie. The main plot is expandable. I didn't find the movie very scary and the two scenes I mentioned are rather unexpected and therefore hit your nerve cause it's very graphic. You will be entertained, but don't expect much from the storyline. It's very simple with a predictable ending.
Spirit of Fear (2023)
not bad - be patient
To summarize the plot with a few words - and then wakes up in a empty house with no memory and follows clues with an unknown outcome. It's definitely watchable and more of a low budget production, which doesn't matter. The movie has some sinister and dark elements. You pretty much follow the main character throughout the movie, while he collects the paper notes. The ending was quite unpredictable. Here and there it reminded me of a video game. If you're looking for a different kind of horror movie (please don't expect a slasher or anything that comes similar to it, it's really just a story with dark elements) give it a go.
A Dark Song (2016)
absolutely unexpected
I didn't had this movie on my radar for whatever reason. The plot is quite unique. I don't want to give much of the plot away, however, the story follows a mother who is desperate and looking for revenge. The characters impressed me the most, the acting is definitely on point. Even if the ending was predictable, there were unpredictable turns. I wouldn't say it is a mainstream horror movie, it definitely has some sinister and dark elements though. I really enjoyed the movie. It's definitely worth to give it a go. I think the message at the end is quite powerful. Again, if you are looking for something different, don't hesitate to watch it.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (2023)
boring and too long
This remake is super boring and has nothing you would associate with the original TMNT. The villan isn't really a villain and I lost interest fast. The new April is too sassy it's hard to like her (she's obviously boss). Didn't expect much when I heard that Rogan is involved, unfortunately this isn't the first franchise he destroyed. The Turtles you see in this instalment don't even like Pizza but prefer to join a high school. Didn't like it. Two stars for the turtles and Splinter voiceovers! This movie wasn't for me. The kids found it very boring. I also felt that the movie is quite overstimulating as you have lots of cut scenes.
Teen Titans Go! See Space Jam (2021)
.. yeah I know Space Jam I am a 90s kid
Not what I expected.. unfortunately.
They seriously hit the 'fast-forward-button' (not fast enough for my taste) to make sure the last human being on earth is familiar with Space Jam. Sooo not necessary and not very smart when it comes to advertising SJ2 in my point of view - as it was rather annoying.. why not creating something new with the iconic MonStars?!
Only fun part was the Titans commentary which can be summarized in a 2min youtube vid.
If you are looking for an amazing adventure and you HAVE seen Space Jam already (or if you are not a huge fan of the original movie) - skip it cause you won't miss anything.. unfortunately.
Gaia (2021)
works as a prequel
Yah the majority goes with 0-3 stars.
Well.. don't expect something super creepy (except for the creature.. I will come to this in a sec).
Cinematography is outstanding as well the acting performances.
The movie definitely hits the top of the iceberg with pandemic overload and environmental issues.
The creature though is a 1:1 copy (or original?!) from 'The Last of Us' (video game).
I am not sure if it acts as a homage or if creators of LOU secretly supported with money etc.
You know what?! It works! It even works as a prequel.
If you wanna see something more art-y & meaningful give it a go.
If you like 'The Last of Us' watch it now - your chance to see a 'clicker' in a live-action adaptation - and it's even more unsettling.. just saying.
Lego Masters Australia (2019)
fan since season 1
Best LEGO Masters adaption ever! Hamish and Brickman are amazing and have such a fantastic chemistry.
The show honors every build and puts it into the spotlight, you can connect to the candidates and all of them have been unique and fun! Those two reasons are actually my main points. In comparison the US show doesn't honor the LEGO builds and it's hard to connect to candidates, pls don't even consider watching the UK version (it's just bad and cheap).
The AU version is just pure LEGO love - with Brickman as THE PRO - who isn't afraid to cry out of joy or cause he's simply blown away.
Hamish usually steals from the brick-pit and is such an amazing host (well known AU comedian).
All 33 episodes have amazing and creative challenges and sometimes a familiar face says 'hi' or sweeps the floor (;
for all LEGO fans a must-see!
Not even the LEGO batman voice has a slight chance against the Aussie dynamic duo!
