Apollo 11 (2019)
Brilliant but
Wonderful documentary on the moon landing. All the wizz bang technologies the government commitment with funds and resources ($140 billion). Most people involved white male and amazingly aged between 25-45. All that expertise knowledge and commitment. If only governments had shown the same resourcefulness today with tackling the global warming issues we would be in such a better place right now. Looking at this documentary makes me gasp in awe of what was achieved in such a short timeframe but also makes me weep of what is not being done now!
The Documentary of Dr G Yunupingu's Life (2017)
A poignant documentary on a life a voice
A documentary that explores a very shy man who plays a guitar upside down and sings of home of place of identity of soul. Sadly dying to young. A refrain that relates to so many. Buy some cds and on a moon filled night play and be taken to some wonderful places.
B.B. King: On the Road (2018)
Wonderful
A wonderful documentary on the greatest bluesman. I saw him up at the Byron Bay Blues Festival in 2014. The place was packed but his performance was terrible. Everyone around me were saying the same it was awful. I'll never forget at the end of his act however as the whole crowd stood up as one and roared their approval and basically said thank you for the wonderful years of great music. I was in tears from the audiences response. The documentary is terrific and actually explains at the end of his career what was going on.
Barefoot in the Park (1967)
Charles boyers film
A nice little film. Charles Boyer steals every moment. Amazing not nominated for his role. A little unknown fact his son died a year earlier from a self inflicted gun shot wound. His wife of over 60 years past away in the late 70ies and 2 days later Charles Boyer killed himself. They never got over the death of their only child.
Brooklyn (2015)
Superficial
So looking forward to this movie but goodness me so superficial and complete lack of depth of characters. You cared about no one really and the final scene you hoped a car would cause some drama but no. The scene of of Frankie's 'song' and young Freddie's contribution shone the only light in this movie. The interesting Australian film Ladies in Black handled similar issues with so much more panache and care. Sadly awful.
When the Boat Comes In: A Land Fit for Heroes and Idiots (1976)
Brilliant
Saw this way back in the seventies in Australia. Writing direction acting all wonderfully drawn. Depicts the time so well. Revisiting this show again thinking it might be dated but it is not. Amazing to see that 'jack & jessie' are still married and still acting together in new tricks.
