Sextuplets (2019)
Just corny
I dreadfully made to the end. It's simply corny. It's not the worst movie I ever saw. The worst is "Open Water" but that's another conversation. I like Marlon (and the Wayans family as a whole) but this is just bad. The acting and jokes are horrible - outdated and cliche - as others have mentioned. Marlon uses a lot of overly done black stereotypes that are not creative. I think the script should have been developed much more. It should've been more of a dramady (drama and comedy). For example, lose the pregnant wife thing. Marlon could have still discovered he had 5 other siblings but then have him find the long lost siblings and put them through some type of common hardship (like having to break out of prison together) or maybe finding their parents (had the mother not have died already in the movie - in which she wasn't really dead and appeared towards the end).
There were a few, and literally just a few, funny scenes. The Jasper character was creative and I laughed. Marlon had the nerve to say this was his best work in a interview on The Breakfast Club. Far far from it. This may have been his worst work. If you have nothing to do, put this movie on in the background. That's all it's good for.
Backfire (2017)
Has potential
I'm actually surprised that this movie turned out better than I thought. A Netflix indie movie on a low budget ($100k) isn't going to "wow" anyone. The story line was pretty good and the premise. The acting was very amateur but I think the intensity of the story carried it. The ending was a little open-ended. Realistically, the mob wouldn't just give up. They should've shown them brought down by the police or something. There were a few holes in the story line however. But not a bad movie if you're bored and have low expectations.
See You Yesterday (2019)
Waste of "time"
Could've been much better. The movie was too predictable and didn't even have an ending. The acting was too exaggerated. I don't know many people who curse this much in real life. I like the idea of the movie. A sister trying to save her brother and essentially bring him back to life. But the directors or writers could've explored that more and made it less predictable. The sci-fi/CGI was laughable. I would much rather see no special affects (like in Groundhog Day) and we can fill in that gap in our minds.
Roxanne Roxanne (2017)
Quality Movie
I gave this movie a 8/10. I thought the acting was great and the actual quality of the movie (sound, picture, etc) was phenomenal. I don't know what the budget was but I wish more movies looked as good as this. Chanté Adams did an incredible job. She was a natural and very believable.
I think it was a little hard to follow if you're not from that era because I don't know all of the players. I'm an 80s baby and I still don't know everyone who was being portrayed in the movie. I think they should've paused the film with a little caption under each main character so the audience can get a better understanding of who is who.
Also, I would've liked the film to illustrate how Roxanne Shanté affected the billboards and media etc. This was an inside looking out movie but the outside looking in perspective would've been nice to add, just a tad. Other than that, solid film!
