All Together Now (2020)
Singing... Not so much.
Here's the thing, this was not a bad movie. It had a lot of heart and emotion. The issue I have: this is a movie about an amazing singer played by a lead actress who is an amazing singer...so why the heck doesn't she SING MORE? She sings for a hot second in the beginning and then for a touching moment in the middle but that's all you get. If you are like me and have this expectation and anticipation of a big finale, you won't get that satisfaction. It's a heartfelt sweet film, but lacks the much needed singing to make this film great.
In the Dark: All About the Benjamin (2020)
Was this fast forwarded?? What happened?
Wait what??? Why did the writers decide to fast forward? What happened? I had to pause and look at what episode I was on several times (I actually did it again just to make sure). I get that there is a sudden need from producers to fast forward in shows to build excitement when dull but that wasn't the case here. Viewers weren't told what happened when invested and also it wasn't the time to move forward so suddenly.
The show was exciting in season one. Flash backs were understood and interesting. Viewers were interested to see what was next until this second season and then we were let down. Was this a last ditch effort to save the show?
So here's what I think, it's lazy writing. It's easy to fast forward but it's difficult to explain and to undress the good that has turned bad when doing so. The first season was engaging. I felt let down after the confusing second season first episode. I will say, I'm seeing it through. Maybe it will come around. But most likely from what I see, it won't last 3 seasons.
Writers, step it up. Either be better (look at x files, izombie or buffy to be much better for your genre), fail, or pull an epic big bang sort of thing and appeal to the masses (this would be difficult at this point). Good luck.
