Take Care of Maya (2023)
True love
Stay strong Maya and the Kalowski family!
Your mother - Beata, loved you so much, she actually sacrificed herself to save you. Her actions resulting in Maya being released to her dad.
Absolutely criminal what the hospital and the courts did to this family and thousands of others!!
Don't let your hatred for the court system destroy your family any further, love always wins and truth!
Deeply emotive documentary, absolute tear jerker, breaks your heart what Maya and her family has gone through.
Hope you find peace and happiness, once you've kicked their ass in court and hopefully received a hefty financial compensation payout. Not that money can truly compensate for what you've been through.
God bless you all x.
Beef (2023)
Great until last 2 episodes
Was going to score an eight out of ten, as rarely watch fiction these days, but it was engaging, well acted and cleverly constructed, so became hooked.
However, I think the writer was either drunk or on something when they wrote last two episodes as it gets very far fetched and silly, which kind of ruined it for me. I'm invested as is a ten episode series, so watching until the end; it's literally on now the last 40 mins and have lost interest sadly, but will let it run until finishes. Crows have literally been talking about pooping, this episode, to give you an idea of how random it gets..........!
The Rum Diary (2011)
Worth a watch
Following the legal case with Johnny and Amber was inspired to watch this considering it's where their romance kindled.
She was incredibly beautiful; if only Johnny had known her kisses came with a thousand knives.
The plot is weak and disenchanting, I only made it through the two hours because of the narrative we know that followed and my curiosity.
Certainly worth a watch though, if you feel inclined.
The Alpinist (2021)
Inspirational and emotive documentary
Truly captivating as you are taken on the journey of Marc-Andre's jaw dropping passion of extreme mountain climbing.
An extraordinary human being who lives life on the edge; quite literally.
I watched the last third with my heart in my mouth; wondering how he is going to pull off some of the world's most challenging ascensions, but he does.
Credit to the filmmakers for capturing his brilliance; when he is rather reluctant to engage.
This is just a flavour of the program; highly recommended viewing.
I didn't want to include any spoilers, but I have to say the world has lost an incredibly unique and inspirational young man who left us way too soon.
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas (2008)
Incredibly moving
Touches the soul this one, have your hankies on standby.
Deeply moving, the purity of childhood innocence; before abhorrent ideologies.
The father and commander is punished for his blind ignorance with the hardest lesson of all.
The acting and direction is superb.
One that stays with you. See the world and its people like Bruno and Shmuel.
Inside Man (2006)
Highly watchable and engrossing
Smart enough to keep you watching until the end; in the hope the motives are revealed and it does largely answer all the questions it lays as it goes along its trajectory.
I enjoyed it because it covers a theme that has been told a thousand times before, but delivers it in a different way with multiple layers.
The Unforgivable (2021)
Engaging and emotional
Quite rare for a film to hold my attention these days but this one hit the mark! Great acting, engrossing, smart and emotional plot. Highly recommended, especially if you have a little sister that you'd do the same for.
No Time to Die (2021)
Highly entertaining!
Total pleasure! Absolute delight to see the film, waited so long!
Daniel Craig is my favourite bond, he has it all and it's the end of an era.
Thank you to everyone involved, especially Mr Craig 😊
Under Suspicion: Uncovering the Wesphael Case (2021)
Watchable
I love true crime documentaries. This one once again shows with enough financial impetus you can pay for your freedom from justice. The lead lawyer he hires is top notch and is the reason he's not locked up - where he belongs for killing his wife in rage. In the time he claims to be asleep, he is preparing the scene and getting his story straight. The facts of 38 contusions on her body, suffocated signs - pathologist, make up trail from bed to dragged to bathroom, empty pill packets yet none in her stomach, plastic 'suicide' suffocation bag - no deceased breath, previous reports of intense aggression from defendant with ex partner - anger control issues, motive - voice call from other lover to hotel room. It's a shame the top lawyers are never the state prosecution - he'd be locked up for 30yrs.
Rocketman (2019)
Entertaining escapism
Watched it on Netflix after work on a Tuesday evening. Perfect kind of film for leaving the day behind.
Wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. I would have given it a 7.5 if that was an option. It's not an 8 as I wouldn't watch it again.
Discovered elements of Elton's life I didn't know about and feel saddened that he went through. I doubt he would be the performer and as driven as he was without that though.
Leaves you with a lot of admiration and respect for him. He's also one of the producers so imagine a lot of it is true, at least from his perspective.
Definitely worth a watch.
Your Honor (2020)
Disappointing last few episodes.
I delayed watching this due to the terrible reviews of the Son, however, I'm glad I gave it a shot as I really enjoyed the first 6 or 7 episodes.
Sadly the last 3 episodes became totally implausible and ruined it, they also highlighted the terrible script and the whole thing falls apart.
Vis a vis (2015)
Top notch!
Amazing show, great characters that you really believe in. The drama is enthralling and heart wrenching at times, each episode action packed.
Series 1-3 Stellar writing, production and acting.
Series 4 Tapered off a lot for me, lost its believability and edge and I was a little disappointed. They ran out of ideas in the end it seemed and did the best they could to fill 8 final episodes.
All in all though a fabulous show!
Gisaengchung (2019)
Refreshingly different
Can't say I've ever watched a movie similar to this one. Because of the reviews I gave it two attempts to draw my attention and I'm glad I did.
I found it thought provoking with a lingering sadness afterwards, the disparity across humanity.
It's a well crafted film with a beating heart and a poignant premise.
Creep (2014)
Intense!
Wow! This one had me hooked and hiding behind the pillow by the end!
If you like psychological thrillers and are fascinated by the human psyche this is for you!
The thing is we don't like to be rude to people so when someone crosses your boundaries you tend to go with the flow to a certain extent. The videographer did what I would have done for the most part. It will make you question who you trust by the end. I slept with my bedroom door locked tight haha!
Saying this if it doesn't grab you in the first 5 minutes then it probably isn't for you.
Can't wait to watch the sequel tonight.
Searching (2018)
Very poor!
I rarely give low reviews but this film is really terrible! Don't understand the 10/10's it's been given at all. I guess full marks for ingenuity and trying something new - whole film on a laptop, but the acting is terrible - especially the female cop not believable at all. I made it just over half way then hard to turn off, not wasting any more time on it.
The Green Mile (1999)
Exceptional
Fantastic movie, watched it again now on Netflix. This time around I appreciated so many extra elements that I missed the first time. Everything about the film is superb, from the casting, to the storyline and the Direction. It all comes together to captivate you along the deep and moving journey with them and the three hours honestly flies by! Enjoy!
The I-Land (2019)
It's the terrible writing!
The premise is good and it had a lot of potential. However, by episode 4 I just couldn't watch any more because of the poor writing that makes it comical rather than gripping.
Such a shame because I felt they could have done a lot with it.
Den 12. mann (2017)
Exceptional film of resilience and heart.
From start to finish this film is a masterpiece. The acting is incredible, the story will warm your heart and also have you in tears. Utterly captivating what the 12th man survived through. Sometimes life is bigger than us.
