Save Me (1994)
First sex scene was retarded
The first sex scene in the lingerie shop was idiotic. The two way mirror thing just wasn't necessary, so then, when they finally start going at it, Ellie strips down to her teddy, but she is still wearing shiny tan dance tights. Duh? Thru the whole fornication scene. She had them on when she was modeling her lingerie earlier too - why I don't know as there are later scenes in the movie where she is completely nude and looks great - no need for the tights. Then later in the movie when he semi rapes her in the stairwell at his office, the same deal. I mean most of the movie is pretty stupid anyway, but at least try to give me the impression that there is real sex going on.
24 Hour Party People (2002)
Excellent Creative Film, but I'm biased
Outstanding film period. Creative format and excellent acting. As I said I'm biased though - I was a Joy Division fan back when you could only buy their albums in one or two record shops in NYC. I was a fan of everything Factory and still have a nice collection of everything they put out. Even back in the early 80's at the peak of their popularity 9 out of 10 people didn't even know who Joy Division were, so who would have ever thought someone would come along and make a movie about them, well sort of about them. I'm not sure the whole tie-in to the birth of the rave culture is 100% attributable to Manchester, but it was a significant player. My only other complaint is the cover photo - some teenie bopper with a tongue piercing. It's interesting to note that I thought that the demographic with the strongest attachment to this film would be 30 something males and females - original Joy Division and New Order fans, however, its teenage girls - I hope they didn't just pick this movie because they liked the cover picture, which is actually very similar to the picture for the movie Thirteen.
She Hate Me (2004)
Absolute Garbage
This was an absolutely unrealistic horrible film. Spike Lee is truly the black Oliver Stone. Along with the usual stereotyping conspiracy theories, he manages to completely slam lesbians. This guy ranks up there with Woody Allen as directors that some retards keep giving money to make movies that pretty much only white, yuppie liberals pay to see, and subsequently rave over in some knee-jerk reaction to their guilt for the plight of black Americans. On top of this, from just an editing and writing standpoint, this film was just boring - long meaningless dialog, some lame jazz soundtrack, and a jerky overall flow. The only Spike Lee Junk that I ever even remotely found slightly entertaining was Do the Right Thing - primarily because of a handful of the colorful characters. But all in all, another message movie - how stupid does he thing people are? Does he really think he is teaching us something? We aren't all second graders. You've got a love someone as screwed up to turn the Enron type scandals and even Watergate into a race issues. Early John Water films are more entertaining than this trash. Do these movies actually make any money?
